2024-25 NBA Schedule Quirks: Southwest Division

NBA - Rockets' Fred Van Vleet

We search the different NBA team schedules to uncover some interesting tidbits that you may have missed. Yes, the season is well underway, but you know there are always other things to look for and talk about if you search hard enough.

For this week, we will be concentrating on the Southwest Division.

San Antonio Spurs

Home games that are on the road? Yup, that is what the Spurs are going to endure this season. With two games in Paris, France, and another two in Austin, Texas, the Spurs are going to lose a few chances to host some home games in the early months of next year.

Houston Rockets

This is good news for the Rockets and their families. Houston’s longest road trip will only be four games long (and six days, to be exact). That stretch is actually shorter than it sounds because the first two games are in the Big Apple where they face both New York teams. Additionally, the fourth game will be in Dallas, which is already close to Houston.

Memphis Grizzlies

Can the Grizzlies watch the NFL’s Super Bowl this winter? Some of them can, but only if they plan carefully. They could play their scheduled home game on Feb. 8, fly to New Orleans on Feb. 9 for Super Bowl Sunday, and then head out to Arizona to play the Phoenix Suns two days later.

Dallas Mavericks

With no games to play from April 6 to 8, the Mavericks have a chance to go to nearby San Antonio and watch the NCAA Championship. As for the Spurs and the Rockets, they will be on road trips during that time, which makes the Mavericks the only Texas team to actually be in… Texas.

New Orleans Pelicans

Fans of the Pelicans are currently feeling In-Season Tournament jitters. In the past three years, the Pelicans have an overall losing record against Dallas, Denver, Memphis, and Golden State. Those are the teams they will face in West Group C of the In-Season Tournament’s second edition.
