Traveling Tom's MLB All Star Game Experience

16 miles. Two days. An amazing experience. The 2019 All-Star Game provided a great lineup of things to do for fans anywhere from 10 to 100… and even the youngsters got a thrill out of the mascots there! While I was not credentialed to go to this event (I hope my writing can get to the right people at some point), I had a great time experiencing the nation focusing on one city and one event. Cleveland had a couple years to prepare for this and they knocked it out of the park. Of course, not everyone was satisfied, but that’s not realistic. Let me tell you what I got out of this great event.

Pitchers Primed For a Better Second Half

Max Fried
Max Fried started the year off hot with a 2.43 ERA in May. He has since cooled off putting up an ERA of 4.11 in May and 5.68 ERA in June. I wouldn’t shy away from him though; in fact, I would be buying anywhere I can.

Team Grades: American League West

Once again, the Houston Astros are among the best teams in baseball. New signing Michael Brantley has been one of the highlights of this team, leading all qualified Astros with a .324 batting average. Not to mention Yordan Alvarez, who made his major league debut on June 9th. In 19 games, Alvarez has hit seven home runs and has an OPS of 1.141.  Their pitching has been dominant as well, as both their team ERA (3.86) and WHIP (1.14) rank fourth and second, respectively.

Christian Pulisic: The Hope of a Nation

Soccer is technically the most popular sport in the world, popular in almost every country perhaps, America maybe not so much. With the rise of soccer in video gaming (FIFA for example) over the last 10 years or so, the sport is gradually building a larger and steadier fan base in the states. With that being said, while more and more Americans don Messi and Ronaldo jerseys, one thing we have been deprived of is an American star. We have had some occasional flash in the pan stars like Tim Howard at the 2014 World Cup, or Landon Donovan, but never anyone to guarantee the sport is taking off here. That is until the arrival of one young American arrived in Germany, that man is Christian Mate Pulisic.

Team Grades: National League East

The NL East is going about how you would expect it. The Nationals started out terribly but have gone back on track, while the Braves have been consistently leading the division for almost the entire year. The Phillies aren’t doing as well as many would have thought with how good they did in free agency, while the Mets are disappointing as usual. Wait, is there another team in this division? Oh right, the Marlins. They’re pretty bad, but honestly, they’re outperforming expectations due to young pitching that has been doing very well.
