Here’s a look back at the week that was Week 10 of the NFL season.
Hail Murray
After the Buffalo Bills to the lead late in the game, the Arizona Cardinals had less than a minute to pull out the upset. On a rollout with 11 seconds left in the game, Kyler Murray avoided a tackle in that backfield. He heaved a prayer for the end zone. DeAndre Hopkins, who had three Bills defenders surrounding him, came down with the ball, sealing the victory and a tie for first place in the NFC West for the Cardinals.
Nine Nil
The Pittsburgh Steelers remained the NFL’s one unbeaten team after mishandling Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers dominated the Bengals in all phases.
Still Undefeated
Tua Tagliova is now 3-0 to start his NFL career. But his post-game comments may have some of his upcoming opponents the wrong way. He said he thought the NFL was harder to figure out than it has been.
Kicking Woes Continue
The Tennessee Titans and their kicking issues have been an issue for a better part of the last two seasons. While kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed another field goal against the Indianapolis Colts, the bigger issue was the punting. Pro Bowler Brett Kern is still sidelined with an injury, former FedEx driver Trevor Daniel was signed to fill in. After the Titans defense stopped the Colts on 4th down on the one-yard line, Daniel shanked a punt that only netted 17 yards. After the Colts capitalized with a touchdown, his punt on the ensuing drive was blocked and returned for another score.
Fumble Forgiven
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ronald Jones fumbled early in the first quarter on Sunday. Coach Bruce Arians immediately pulled him in favor of Leonard Fournette. After a punt pinned the Bucs to their own 2-yard line, Jones redeemed himself by taking a Tom Brady handoff 98 yards to the house. He finished with 192 yards rushing on the day.
Comeback Falls Short
The obvious frontrunner for Comeback Player of the Year is Alex Smith. Smith got his first start four days short of two years to the day that he suffered his devastating leg injury. He led Washington back from a 21 point deficit against the Detroit Lions, only for a 59-yard Matt Prater field goal to win it for the Lions, as time expired.
Biting off Another W
After a big hit, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees didn’t play in the second half. Jameis Winston played in his place and helped the Saints get the win. It was revealed Monday that Brees suffered several fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. With it looking likely that Brees will miss a bit of time, Winston may be this season’s version of Teddy Bridgewater, auditioning for the league and his next contract.
Shock and Awe-most
The Jacksonville Jaguars behind rookie quarterback Jake Luton and a defense that showed up to play. With 12 minutes to play against the Packers, the Jaguars led 20-17, before Aaron Rodgers found Davante Adams for the go-ahead and game-winning touchdown, to avoid being on the losing end of the biggest upset of the week, if not the season.
Back to Back
The New York Giants are on a two-game winning streak. And both wins have been against division opponents in Washington and the Eagles on Sunday. Daniel Jones tallied over 300 total yards in the win. The Giants at 3-7 are that much closer to the top spot in the NFL East.
No 200 Yards This Week
Dalvin Cook who had back-to-back 200-yard performances was held to 96 yards on 30 carries against the Chicago Bears defense. The Vikings did get the win against their division rivals.
