Zion Williamson Featured on Cover of NBA 2K21

New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson was named as one of three players to be on the cover of NBA 2K21 on Wednesday.

Williamson will join Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard on the cover. The third player will be announced on Thursday. Williamson will be on the cover for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, while Lillard will be on the cover for the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions.

“Being on the cover of NBA 2K has been a dream since I was a kid and to be the first NBA 2K21 cover athlete for the next-generation of gaming is really special,” Williamson said in a statement. “Since the day I joined Team 2K, I’ve wanted to make an impact on basketball culture both on and off the court, and being the cover athlete for NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles lets me do that. I can’t wait to be part of this global phenomenon and hoop with all the ballers out there on NBA 2K21.”

Williamson himself played the game when he was on the AAU circuit. He is the third Pelicans player to ever grace the cover, joining Chris Paul and Anthony Davis, according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN.

Lillard said that it’s an honor to be on the cover. He is the first Trail Blazer to ever receive the honor.

This season, Williamson is averaging 23.6 points and 6.8 rebounds on 58.9% shooting from the field. Along with a few other young phenoms, he’s increasingly becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the NBA.

  1. Has there ever been more undeserved hype for a player than for Zion? Is the NBA going to make a rule like they have for LeBron that lets the other teams do whatever they want to Zion? The NBA is a fraud.
