The New York Yankees placed right fielder Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list on Friday due to a right calf strain. The move is retroactive to Wednesday.
An MRI taken on Thursday revealed what manager Aaron Boone called a “very mild” strain. Judge was removed from Tuesday’s game midway through. He didn’t play on Wednesday. Boone is hoping that Judge is on the injured list for a very short time.
“He’s as tough as they come, and he’s a guy that has demonstrated the ability to play through things and grind through things,” Boone said. “He wants to get back on the field as quickly as possible.”
Entering Friday Judge was hitting .290/.343/.758 with nine home runs and 20 RBIs. He leads the Majors in home runs, RBIs, and slugging percentage.
The Yankees have recalled infielder/outfielder Thairo Estrada. Boone sees Clint Frazier and Mike Tauchman having more playing time with Judge and Giancarlo Stanton both on the injured list. Tauchman got the start in right field on Friday against the Boston Red Sox.
