Last Friday, Manchester United confirmed that they acquired Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus. The 36-year-old forward is returning to Old Trafford for the first time since departing for Real Madrid in 2009. Manchester United paid Juventus €15 million, along with another €8 in add-ons in order to acquire the legendary Portuguese forward.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s resume includes over 30 major trophies in England, Spain, and Italy. In addition, the five-time Champions League winner won the European Championship for his national team. Ronaldo is currently Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer with 450. His tenure with Juventus includes two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, and one Capocannoniere. Furthermore, Ronaldo is the first player to win the Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A. Additionally, Ronaldo is the first ever to score 100 goals for three clubs and Portugal as well as the fastest Juventus player to score 100 goals for the club.

At 36 years of age, Ronaldo is still in tremendous shape and still fully committed and motivated to play the game. In other words, he still has plenty left to offer. It’s even reported that one of the reasons for Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford is to settle some unfinished business. What’s clear is that Ronaldo had been unhappy at Juventus for a while and it was time for him to depart. Manchester City appeared to be set to acquire but transfer talks stopped and Manchester United immediately took advantage.
Ronaldo is long overdue for a fresh start. A return to Manchester United 18 years after his first arrival is the perfect way to do it. Ronaldo is perfectly capable of making a strong impact for the Red Devils. His leadership, expertise, and skills will have a positive effect. Ronaldo reunites with Real Madrid teammate Raphaël Varane, as well as international teammate Bruno Fernandes. This is a move that can be help both the club and Ronaldo.
It’s unclear when Ronaldo will play his first game for the Red Devils since the international break is now in effect. The Red Devils will play their next match on September 11th against Newcastle United. On September 14th, Manchester United plays their first Champions League match.
