The 22nd FIFA World Cup takes place this year. However, since the tournament takes place in Qatar, the tournament will not be happening in the summer due to Qatar’s brutal summer heat. Instead, the tournament starts in late December and will last just shy of one month. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is the second tournament to take place in Asia and the first-ever in the Middle East.
Germany is one of ten European national teams already in the tournament. Die Mannschaft topped their qualifying group and are determined to once again be world champions. Four years ago in Russia, disaster struck the four-time world champions when they were eliminated from the tournament, finishing bottom of their group. It was the first time since 1938 that Germany failed to make it past the group stage in the World Cup. Last summer, Die Mannschaft struggled at Euro 2020, suffering elimination in the Round of 16. Germany clearly wants to return to its old successful form.

What makes Germany a World Cup Favorite?
What makes Germany a favorite is simply the fact that they’re a team of talented players with a brilliant manager. Entering this year’s World Cup with names like Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Manuel Neuer, and İlkay Gündoğan. Die Mannschaft is now under the leadership and management of Hansi Flick. Flick was the national team’s assistant manager from 2006 to 2014. Before taking over, Flick managed Bayern Munich. With the club, Flick lost only seven games, and led the club to a Champions League title in 2020, going undefeated in the tournament. In total, Flick won a total of seven trophies and was named 2019-20 UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year. Die Mannschaft can go into Qatar as good as they’ve ever been.
Flick is also in familiar territory. The only difference is now he’s in complete control of the national team. With his very successful tenure with Bayern, Flick was obviously the best man for the job. Since becoming Die Mannschaft’s manager, Flick is 7-0 with his team scoring 31 goals and conceding just two. In no time, the German national team began to look like its former self. Throughout the national team’s history, Die Mannschaft has always been known for its winning mentality and unique team chemistry. Under Flick’s leadership, the team has the potential of being better than it’s ever been before. The players have a manager they can fully trust and that’s what Germany needs.
