Who Will Be the Dallas Cowboys’ Starting Quarterback Against Minnesota?

Who Will Be the Dallas Cowboys Starting Quarterback Against Minnesota?

Of the many issues the Dallas Cowboys have faced this season, the starting quarterback position is the most worrisome. So far this season, a total of four quarterbacks have started under center. Dallas is 2-7, and as the injuries continue to pile up, the results have been disappointing.

Last Sunday, Garrett Gilbert started for the Cowboys against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gilbert put up a respectable performance, finishing 21-for-38 with 243 yards and one touchdown and one interception in a losing effort. This was his first career NFL start, despite being in the league since 2014. The 29-year-old former Texas Longhorn and SMU Mustang quarterback had previously been on six teams in the NFL before arriving in Dallas last month.

Dallas is on a bye in Week 10 before they play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11. Earlier this week, head coach Mike McCarthy and Executive Vice President/CEO Stephen Jones both confirmed that Andy Dalton will be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys once he is cleared from concussion protocol.

Who should be the quarterback against Minnesota?

Based on how well he played against Pittsburgh, Gilbert deserves to start. His play (despite lackluster protection from a bad offensive line) against arguably the league’s best pass rush speaks for itself. Additionally, he was able to connect well with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Dalton Schultz n the passing game. Despite the interception, Gilbert was exceptional.

In Dalton’s case, luck just hasn’t been on his side. That bad hit he suffered against Washington and that very frustrating game against the Arizona Cardinals is a hard pill to swallow. Dalton was placed on the reserve/Covid-19 list on November 3rd. It’s unclear how long he’ll be inactive. There is a slight possibility that he could return to practice by next week, but there is no confirmation of that yet.

The Cowboys are better off sticking with Gilbert as the starting quarterback. He has showed potential and it would be wise for Dallas to continue with him under center. With their playoff hopes likely dead in the water, they have nothing to lose.

  1. Stephen and jerry Jones if you want to win your division you better start Gilbert. He about beat the unbeaten Steelers in his first nfl start and when you get back on the field after your bye week Gilbert will be good to go. Your team but time to be smart
