What Ricky Jean Francois Brings to the Patriots

The New England Patriots didn’t make any eye popping moves at the trade deadline, but they indeed went looking a full week after adding defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois.

Francois (30), will be entering the fold after playing the first half of the season with the Green Bay Packers. While he’s not an eye opening name, he’s had a few productive seasons with his biggest in 2014 recording 28 total tackles and three sacks.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick stated that the tackle is a welcome addition to the defense.

“I just feel like we were trying to add a little depth to the defensive line,” Belichick said to nesn.com. “He’s played this year, has some experience.”

While he does add more depth and fill a need at a thinning position, many wonder if his play matches the style of play in New England. Like all of us, Belichick is just going to wait and see.

“He’s been on several different teams, played in different systems,” Belichick said. “Played 3-4 end, played inside on the guard. So we’ll see how it goes.”

While it remains to be seen the impact he will make early on in his tenure if at all, bringing in Francois is a low risk move that if it pans out, will give the Patriots much needed seniority and depth on the defensive line.
