Week 7 Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert

The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5) travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers (1-4) in a battle of one-win teams. The Chargers come off their bye week, so they will be extra prepared while the Jaguars try to bounce back from a blowout loss to the Detroit Lions last week.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Last weekend, Jacksonville struggled to stop the Detroit running game, as D’Andre Swift and Adrian Peterson combined for 156 yards and three touchdowns. The Chargers don’t have a great rushing attack, but they pass the ball extremely well, so the Jaguars secondary will need to step up in this game.

Three players have been ruled out for the Jaguars: tight end Tyler Eifert, safety Jarrod Wilson, and linebacker Myles Jack. Offensive guard A.J. Cann is listed as questionable with a shoulder injury as well. Losing Jack is a major blow to Jacksonville’s defense as he is the leader of the group.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers played a great game two weeks ago against the New Orleans Saints. Despite losing the game in overtime, Justin Herbert proved he is the future of the franchise after becoming the first rookie to throw four touchdowns on Monday Night Football. He will look to continue his hot streak against a below-average Jaguars defense.

Injuries for Los Angeles aren’t a problem this week. The only notable player is starting right guard Trai Turner, who has been ruled out with a groin injury. Keenan Allen left the Saints game with back spasms, but after a full week to recover, he enters the game without an injury designation.

The Chargers lead the all-time series 8-3 and have won seven of the last eight matchups between the two franchises. However, this is the first time Herbert will face the Jaguars.

Betting Odds Sponsored by Jazz Sportsbook

Point Spread: JAX +7.5 (-110) | LAC -7.5 (-110)

Moneyline: JAX +300 | LAC -400

Over/Under: O 49 (-110) | U 49 (-110)

Both teams rank in the bottom eight in points scored per game. Thus, I wouldn’t expect a high scoring game. Take the under in this one.

Los Angeles is playing much better football than Jacksonville at the moment, and there is no indication of Herbert slowing down against a porous Jaguars defense. The Chargers will cover the spread.

Prediction

The Chargers record doesn’t do liberty to how well they have been playing. This will be a blowout from the jump, and the Bolts will grab their second win of the season. Meanwhile, the Jaguars will drop to 1-6 and head into their bye week with some serious questions to answer.

Final Score: Jacksonville Jaguars 17, Los Angeles Chargers 31
