In a battle of teams looking to stay afloat in the NFC, The New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions scored 42 points in the first half to put the over easily within reach. It was destined to be a shootout, the question was which team would get to .500. We now know it is the Saints.
First Quarter
The Lions drive down the field on their first possession and score on a short seven-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to D’Andre Swift to put them up 7-0.
.@Lions RB @DAndreSwift is the 2nd RB in franchise history to record at least 10 receptions, 100 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD in the first four games of his @NFL career.

The Saints’ offense takes the field and on his first pass of the game, Drew Brees gets intercepted by Darryl Roberts off of a tipped pass. Three plays later, Stafford hits Kenny Golladay for a 15-yard TD and in less than five minutes the Lions lead 14-0.
It’s the Saints turn to respond, and respond they do. On a solid 13-play drive, New Orleans drives down and puts up their first points on a Latavius Murray three-yard TD run. The Lions lead 14-7 with a little under four minutes left in the first quarter.
A broken-up pass by Patrick Robinson and a sack by Cameron Jordan force the Lions to punt and the Saints take over at their own 20-yard line with less than a minute left.
Second Quarter
After a couple of runs by Murray end the first quarter, the Saints move down the field and are forced with a fourth-down dilemma. Sean Payton decides to go for it and Brees hits Alvin Kamara for 29 yards and a fresh set of downs. After Kamara recovers a loose ball from a Brees fumble, the Saints QB gets it to Murray and sets up first and goal. Kamara punches it in from a yard out and the Saints tie the game at 14.
After a couple of plays including a 31-yard pass to Jesse James and a big pass interference call against Marcus Williams, the Lions are at the Saints’ 11-yard line. Stafford tries to force it to T.J. Hockenson and Robinson picks it off for a touchback.
The Saints running game gets going strong and Murray and Kamara begin to gash the Lions up the middle. New Orleans drives down the field and Brees tosses a TD to Tre’Quan Smith for a two-yard TD as the Saints take their first lead at 21-14.

After Detroit goes three and out, the Saints take over at the Lions’ 49-yard line. With a short field to work with, Brees connects for a big third-down conversion to Smith and hits him on the next play for a 20-yard TD strike putting the Saints up 28-14.
Third Quarter
The Saints open the second half with the ball. The running game continues to roll along with a few well-placed balls from Brees. Murray finally punches it in for a six-yard score. New Orleans is up 35-14

Stafford and the Lions drive right back and with a short one-yard TD to Hockenson. They pull back within two scores at 35-21.
The Saints need to punt at the end of the third quarter and the score remains 35-21 as we head to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Big plays from David Onyemata of the Saints and Reggie Ragland of the Lions shut down the first drives of the fourth quarter for each team.
The Lions make the most of their drive. Golladay catches a big fourth-down pass to keep it alive. On a fourth-and-one Adrian Peterson scores from five yards out. The two-point conversion is good and the Lions cut the lead to 35-29.
On the final drive, the Saints manage a couple of first downs and eventually ice the game. New Orleans wins 35-29.
