Choosing the players who will succeed and benching the ones who will not is essential to winning in fantasy football. Each week, fantasy owners will have to make the tough decision to put a player they like on the bench because the truth is that players a bust. The willingness to do so is what separates good fantasy owners from bad ones. Let’s take a look at five players who could bust in Week 3.
Kyler Murray – QB, Arizona Cardinals (vs LAR)
Murray has had an outstanding start to the year and is the overall QB1 in fantasy football, but this week, things could change. The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best defenses in the league and have done a solid job against opposing quarterbacks so far holding them to 19.75 fantasy points per game. Murray will probably have a decent week, but a 30-plus fantasy point performance seems unlikely.

J.D. McKissic – RB, Washington Football Team (vs ATL)
McKissic has had a poor start to the year only putting up 26.9 fantasy points over the first three weeks, 20.3 coming in Week 2. Some fantasy players are starting him because of the receiving upside, but he should not be started in non-deep leagues. McKissic is too inconsistent to be started with confidence and could easily bust again in Week 4.
Rashod Bateman – WR, Baltimore Ravens (vs DEN)
Bateman is expected to make his debut against the Denver Broncos this week. Although he has upside, it may be smart to hold off before starting him. The Ravens are playing a tough Broncos defense that has only allowed two passing touchdowns all year. For Bateman to be successful, he will need lots of yards or receptions and with the Ravens’ run-heavy style of offense, that will be tough to achieve.
Chase Claypool – Pittsburgh Steelers (vs GB)
Claypool was excellent in Week 3 putting up 18.6 fantasy points, but he was targeted 15 times. Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, does not have a strong arm, making it tough for Claypool to be found on deep routes. Additionally, the Steelers’ offense has struggled and if they can not target him much, it will be hard for him to put up big numbers.
Robert Tonyan – TE, Green Bay Packers (vs PIT)
Tonyan has been abysmal this year averaging a mere 6.2 fantasy points per game. With the Steelers’ offensive struggles so far this year, the Packers could build a lead early. As a result, they could turn to the run game in short order. Tonyan should be benched this week if a team has a decent backup tight end (i.e. Tyler Higbee).
