Week 3 Preview: Chicago Bears vs. Atlanta Falcons

matt ryan

Before the opening day of the 2020 season, the Chicago Bears were in the midst of a quarterback battle. Fans, analysts, and coaches alike went back and forth about whether to start Nick Foles or Mitchell Trubisky. After two straight wins, Trubisky appears to have the reins to the offense for the time being.

Atlanta comes into their Week 3 matchup as the number five offense in the NFL, averaging 32 points per game. Unfortunately, that high scoring mark has not been enough to match the 39 points a game allowed by the Falcons defense. The high octane Falcons offense led by Matt Ryan will do their best to outscore Trubisky and Allen Robinson

The biggest issue will be whether or not the Falcons can rebound from blowing a 20 point lead to the Dallas Cowboys. Atlanta has faced two extremely good teams so far in the Cowboys and the Seahawks, but their defense has been unable to slow down the opposition and give Ryan and the offense any breathing room.

Chicago comes off of two easy matchups that did not go as easily as they should have. Close games against Detroit and the Giants have raised questions about how their offense can perform if Mitchell Trubisky needs to win a shootout. With Julio Jones questionable to play on Sunday, that should not be an issue. The clear focus will be Ryan and Calvin Ridley against Khalil Mack and the Bears dominant defensive unit.

Points Spread: CHI +3.5 (-110) | ATL -3.5 (-110)

Moneyline: CHI +150 | ATL -185

Over/Under: O 47 (-110) | U 47 (-110)

This should be a day to play the over and the spread for Atlanta at the same time. The Falcons are coming off of two heartbreaking performances and are a desperate team with the offense to truly challenge the firepower of the Bears. Look for Atlanta to cover and provide the points necessary to easily pass the over.

Prediction

The Falcons will be at home and finally facing an opponent who will not be a top 4 seed in the NFC playoffs this season. Ryan will continue to dominate with Ridley and Todd Gurley could get involved with additional rushing attempts to keep the offense balanced. Trubisky needs to prove he can win a shootout before picking against Matty Ice.

Final Score: Chicago Bears 20, Atlanta Falcons 28
