Week 2 Preview: New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks

New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will do battle on Sunday Night Football after coming off of convincing Week 1 victory against the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons respectively. The main storyline to look for in this game will be can Seahawks QB Russell Wilson find holes in the always tricky Patriots secondary. The storyline for the Patriots will be how does Cam Newton handle his first legitimate challenge as Patriots’ starting QB and if he can handle the Seahawks’ crafty pressure packages.

This game will ultimately come down to who’s defense cracks first, the Patriots have the advantage defensively, as they won last week while only allowing 11 points. The Seahawks on the other hand allowed 25 points to the Falcons, who are admittedly a better team offensively but the point still stands. Russell Wilson will need to find holes like he did last week in his 322 passing yard performance last week in the Patriots secondary to win this game. The X-Factor for the Seahawks will be D.K. Metcalf and how he fairs against in all likelihood the reigning defensive player of the year, Stephon Gilmore. If Metcalf can get a mismatch on a linebacker or smaller player, he may deliver the games deciding play.

On the other side of the card is the Patriots and how they’ll fare against the Seahawks defensive front. RB Sony Michel last week had a rushing touchdown, and in his career, he’s had 85 or more scrimmage yards against NFC opponents three out of four times. QB Cam Newton in his debut last week as Patriots QB had 155 passing yards, to go along with 75 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. The Patriots X-Factor in this game will be how many big plays can the Patriots offense manage against the Seahawks defense. Another major factor for the Patriots is keeping Russell Wilson contained and not allowing him to escape from the pocket and perform his magic.

Point Spread: NE: +4 (-110) | SEA: -4 (-110)

Moneyline: NE +170 | SEA -210

Over/Under: Over 45 (-110) | Under 45 (-110)

This game has the potential to be extremely close and low scoring, so I would be cautious about betting on the spread. The Moneyline isn’t very good in this game, and I would definitely take the under in this game, as it has all the signs of being a close, defensive battle.

Prediction

This game will certainty be close, as neither team looks primed to run away with this game. I predict that Cam Newton will have a shaky game, and Russell Wilson will do just enough to win the game, and the Seahawks will walk out of this game 2-0 and the Patriots will suffer their first loss. Seahawks Kicker Jason Myers will kick a game-winning field goal in the final minute of the fourth quarter to steal victory for the Seahawks.

Final Score: Patriots 20 Seahawks 21

Week 11 in the NFL brought more chaos, with at least five games on Sunday being decided by a single score. Notably, the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts won their games by just one point. As a result of their performance, the Buffalo Bills have earned the title of our NFL Team of the Week for the second time this season, having previously received this honor in Week 8.
