Week 17 NFL Picks: Spreads, Props and More

Mike Fanelli & Givanni Damico | December 28th, 2019

It’s week 17 and that means the 2019 NFL season is coming to an end. The playoff picture has cleared up in the NFC, as five teams have punched their ticket while the Eagles are in with a win over the Giants while the Cowboys are in with a win and an Eagles’ loss. In the AFC, five teams have punched their ticket as the Ravens have locked up the top seed while three teams, the Titans, Steelers, and Raiders all still have a shot to claim that last wild card spot. With all 16 games on Sunday for the only week this season, sports betters will be glued to the television all day long.

To recap last week, Gio missed the week but is back this week while Mike had a solid week, going 9-6-1 ATS, 8-8 on the over/unders, and a perfect 3-0 on his favorite bets. The Packers and Vikings were tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter but thanks to the half point, Mike was able to cash his favorite spread bet last week. In total, Mike went 20-14-1 (58.6% hit hate) last week. So let’s see how the guys do this week. Remember neither of us are professional betters nor know everything there is to sports betting, but it’s always fun to have some money on the line when watching the game so let’s see how we do in week 17.

Mike – Raiders +3.5 at Broncos (-118)

I don’t understand this line at all. How the hell are the Raiders 3.5 point underdogs when they could still make the playoffs. In order to make the playoffs, the Raiders need both the Titans and Steelers to lose while also defeating the Broncos. All three of those teams play in the late afternoon time slot. Even if the Raiders start scoreboard watching and see the Titans destroying the Texans (which could happen as the Texans are expected to sit their starters in a meaningless game for them), Jon Gruden isn’t the type of coach to pull his guys mid-game. Expect the Raiders to win this game outright and I would take them on the money line at +145.

Gio – Ravens +2 vs. Steelers (-110)

Despite many Ravens’ starters being rested in this meaningless game, I still think the Steelers and Devlin Hodges don’t stand a chance against the Ravens. With James Conner out and a turnover-prone quarterback, the Ravens should still be able to come away with this one in a low-scoring victory.

Favorite Over/Under Bet

Mike – Steelers at Ravens under 37 (-110)

Lamar Jackson, Mark Ingram, and several other starters have already been ruled out for this game as the Ravens have locked up the top seed in the AFC. However, I don’t think the Steelers will win this game. Hodges has struggled over the last month and Robert Griffin III hasn’t played a meaningful snap in years. These two teams have two of the best defenses in the league, two backup quarterbacks playing, and plenty of players. I expect this game to be around a 17-10 final. The total of under 27.5 is +310 on the alternative line and I would seriously consider it, but I don’t see any way this game tops 37 points if you want to play it safe.

Gio – Dolphins at Patriots over 44.5 (-110)

This game is like the Dolphins’ Super Bowl. They’re going to come out, guns blazing, trying to knock their rival out of a first-round bye. The Patriots will play hard because they’re playing for the bye and don’t want to have to face the Texans or Bills again. Despite the Patriots’ tough defense, Ryan Fitzpatrick works magic and will put up some points for the Dolphins.

Favorite Prop Bet

Mike – Miles Sanders to score a touchdown (+100)

No Alshon Jeffery, no DeSean Jackson, no Nelson Agholor, and now no Zach Ertz. Greg Ward and Dallas Goedert have been great lately, but if the Eagles are going to win this game, they will need another big game from Sanders. In the month of December, Sanders has topped 19 touches in every game and has scored a touchdown in three of those four games, scoring four times in total. Jordan Howard is expected to play this week and that will hurt Sanders’ value some, but Sanders has been the most explosive and impactful (healthy) player on the team. If you feel like taking a risk, the payout for Sanders to score twice is +500 and I would be tempted to throw some cash down on it.

Gio – Jalen Richard scores a touchdown and the Raiders win the game (+550)

It’s week 17. Go big or go home! With Josh Jacobs out, DeAndre Washington and Richard will share touches in the backfield. Richard will have a receiving touchdown this week and the Raiders will win. Not only will they win but everything in their unlikely playoff scenario will happen! GO RAIDERS!
