Week 17 NFL Best Bets: Early Afternoon Slate

Best Bets

As we inch closer to the postseason, the 2022 NFL regular season is on its final legs. Although many spots are still “up for grabs” in both the AFC and NFC, what better time to add to your viewing pleasure with a few betting plays? So, without further ado, let’s further examine two best bets during Sunday’s rendition of the early afternoon slate.

Best Bet No. 1: Panthers +3.0 (-110)

This one’s a bit of a spicy meatball, but I absolutely love it – here’s why. The Carolina Panthers (6-9) enter week 17 still in contention for a spot in the NFL postseason. Nope, you read that previous sentence correctly. Winners of three of their past four, and four of their past six games, the Panthers have clawed (no pun intended) their way into the NFC playoff picture against all odds. This afternoon, they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-8) in what many predict to be a close and hotly-contested game. However, this Panthers team is scrappy, opportunistic, and absolutely loves being the underdog – just ask the Detroit Lions.

From the Bucs’ side of things, this is a team who hasn’t covered the spread in six-consecutive weeks to go along with their roller-coaster season. So maybe, just maybe, Tampa Is ripe for the picking. Not only do I think the Panthers can cover this spread, but I even think they may even pull out a win and shock the football world. We’ll see how it all unfolds on Sunday. Take Carolina at +3.0 as soon as you can.

Best Bet No. 2: Dolphins vs. Patriots UNDER 42.0 (-110)

I locked this one in early, and since then, the line has shifted to 41.5. As always, never underestimate the importance of being proactive with betting lines and staying one step ahead of markets and sports books.

Although the Dolphins own one of the most lethal and talented offenses in football, this team has been mired in a free-fall for the past few weeks, having lost four-consecutive games. In addition, their offense has completely diminished and now runs into one of the league’s most efficient defensive units, led in large part by the wily-old veteran head coach himself, Bill Belichick. On Sunday, they’ll be without star QB Tua Tagovailoa and will subsequently turn to Teddy Bridgewater

Although the Pats have lost two straight games, a win on Sunday gets them back in the playoff picture in the AFC. Led by their defense, New England has a way of shutting down opposing offenses, exemplified last week when they registered two takeaways and zero points conceded in the second half against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. I’m inclined to lean toward New England’s rock-solid D to keep this one close. Lock in the under as soon as you can, folks.

Gates Top NFL Team From Week 11 (2024)

Week 11 in the NFL brought more chaos, with at least five games on Sunday being decided by a single score. Notably, the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts won their games by just one point. As a result of their performance, the Buffalo Bills have earned the title of our NFL Team of the Week for the second time this season, having previously received this honor in Week 8.
