Week 16 Preview: Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots

Week 16 Preview: Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots

The Buffalo Bills (11-3) travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots (6-8). With New England officially eliminated from playoff contention, a Buffalo win would be in both teams’ interest as the Bills would retain the second seed in the AFC and the Patriots would benefit from a better draft pick. Regardless, a battle between two of the best rushing quarterbacks in the league will be entertaining to watch.

New England leads the all-time series 75-44-1 and has won seven of the last eight meetings between the two franchises.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills dominated the Denver Broncos last week, winning 48-19 on the road. Josh Allen threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns, also running in another two touchdowns on the ground. Wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley were seemingly open on every play. Diggs had a season-high 11 catches resulting in 147 yards while Beasley caught eight passes for 112 yards of his own.

Buffalo is relatively healthy this week. Backup tight end Reggie Gilliam is the only player who has been ruled out. Safety Jaquan Johnson (ankle) offensive tackle Ty Nsekhe (groin) is questionable.

New England Patriots

New England had a brutal loss to the Dolphins last week and was officially eliminated from the playoffs. Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore suffered a partially torn quad and will miss the remainder of the season. The one bright spot from the game, cornerback J.C. Jackson recorded his eighth interception of the season.

Injuries are piling up for the Patriots. In addition to Stephon Gilmore being out for the season, cornerbacks Jonathan Jones and Jackson are questionable to play this week along with four starting offensive lineman. New England also has seven key defensive players questionable to play.

Regardless of how good the Patriots are this season, playing them on the road in December is never easy. That said, the Bills will blow them out and cover the spread. Take the over in this one as well.

Prediction

Cam Newton and the Patriots will keep the game close with good defense in the first half but the Bills will dominate in the second and win the game to advance to 12-3. Josh Allen will struggle early but get the job done later on. New England will drop to 6-9 and will have to start preparing for the following season.

Final Score: Buffalo Bills 34, New England Patriots 13
