Choosing the players who will succeed and benching the ones who will not is essential to winning in fantasy football. Each week, fantasy owners will have to make the tough decision to put a player they like on the bench because the truth is that player is a bust. The willingness to do so is what separates good managers from bad ones. Let’s take a look at five players who could bust in Week 16.
Tua Tagovailoa – QB, Miami Dolphins (vs NO)
Tagovailoa has been a solid quarterback for fantasy football purposes this season. The second-year quarterback is averaging 15.4 fantasy points per game. However, he may not be productive in Week 15. The Dolphins are facing a New Orleans Saints team who just shut down Tom Brady, holding him to 4.76 fantasy points last week. The Dolphins will be traveling to New Orleans to play them on Monday Night Football and the Saints’ confidence on defense could help them shut down Tagovailoa. Additionally, the Saints’ defense has been more consistent in recent weeks making the matchup tougher for him.
Ronald Jones – RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs CAR)
Jones is receiving fantasy hype after Leonard Fournette went down due to injury. Although he may put up steady numbers, expectations should not be too high for him. The Carolina Panthers are holding opposing running backs to the third least fantasy points per game which may make it tough for Jones to produce in Week 15.
Sony Michel – RB, Los Angeles Rams (vs MIN)
Michel has been excellent the past few weeks while Darrell Henderson has been dealing with an injury, but expectations should be lowered this week. As Henderson becomes healthier, he and Michel will probably split snaps more. With unpredictability surrounding the situation, it is risky to start Michel against the Minnesota Vikings.
DeVante Parker – WR, Miami Dolphins (vs NO)
Parker stepped up last week while Jaylen Waddle was out because of the coronavirus; he scored 16.8 fantasy points. However, with Waddle back this week, Parker has not been consistent enough to be started. He is averaging 13.1 fantasy points per game, and although he has a good matchup, Waddle’s presence may limit his production.
Zach Ertz – TE, Arizona Cardinals (vs IND)
Ertz has been good since being traded to the Cardinals. The veteran tight end is averaging 10.1 fantasy points on the year, but plenty of his performances finished in the single digits. Although they have not been great against tight ends, the Colts defense is around the middle of the pack. With Ertz’s inconsistency this year, it may be wise to sit him in Week 15.
