Week 13 brings football to Arrowhead Stadium to see the Denver Broncos take on the Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos (4-7) are coming off of a brutal 31-3 loss against the New Orleans Saints while the Chiefs (10-1) are on a roll after securing their sixth-straight win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Broncos
Kendall Hinton got the start at quarterback last week after all of Denver’s quarterbacks were disqualified over coronavirus concerns. Hinton completed 1-of-9 passes for 13 yards and two interceptions. The offense mustered a season-low 112 total yards. Noah Fant was the recipient of Hinton’s only completion, which went for 13 yards. Royce Freeman led all Broncos’ running backs with 50 rushing yards.
On the other side of the ball, DeMarcus Walker led the Broncos’ defense with two sacks and a forced fumble. Bradley Chubb also chipped in with a sack along with six tackles. Undrafted free agent Essang Bassey had his first career interception last week, picking off Taysom Hill in the third quarter.
The Broncos need to put last week’s game behind them and focus on successfully running the ball if they want a shot at pulling off the upset. With Drew Lock set to return this week, the Broncos’ offense can go back to establishing the run to set up the pass. Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay combined for 147 rushing yards back in Week 7, and the Broncos will need that same production out of their two Pro Bowl running backs if they want to win this week.
Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes took care of business on the road against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, completing 37-of-49 passes for 462 yards and three touchdowns. It was his fifth career game with 400-plus passing yards and three-plus touchdown passes, which is second-most by any player in their first four seasons in the NFL. Tyreek Hill set career highs in catches (13) and reception yards (269) and tied his career-high with three touchdowns. Travis Kelce added eight catches for 82 yards.
On the other side of the ball, Tyrann Mathieu had five tackles and a pick last week. Bashaud Breeland had two pass deflections and his second interception of the season. The last time these two teams faced in Week 7, Daniel Sorensen had nine tackles and a 50-yard interception returned for a touchdown.
The Chiefs will need to continue their dominance on offense if they want to come away with the victory at home. The Chiefs are averaging a league-leading 314.5 passing yards per game, which is 33.9 yards more than the second-leading team. With their defense ranked near the bottom of every major defensive category, Mahomes will need to keep up his MVP-type pace and keep peppering his Pro Bowl targets Hill and Kelce if they want to win this week.

The public has been hammering the over ever since the line opened. The over/under opened up at 48, but it has since climbed to 51. The Chiefs dominated the Broncos on the road back in Week 7, winning 43-16. Mahomes and this high-powered offense should have no problem this week against a struggling Broncos team at home. Expect the Chiefs to cover the lofty 13.5-point spread at home.
Prediction
Mahomes finds Kelce in the back of the end zone for the game’s first touchdown. The Broncos answer with a 55-yard field goal from Brandon McManus. The Chiefs outscore the Broncos 17-3 heading into halftime. Coming out of the break, Lindsay and Gordon together combine for 50 rushing yards on their first drive to set up an eight-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy. Mahomes hits Hill on a 54-yard bomb to put the Chiefs up 31-13. Harrison Butker and McManus exchange field goals before Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Le’Veon Bell run the clock out to seal the victory.
Final Score: Broncos 16, Chiefs 34
