Week 11 Recap: Los Angeles Rams vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced off in week 11 on Monday Night Football. Both defenses battled throughout the game, combining for four turnovers. Jared Goff had a fantastic night and led the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter to upset the Buccaneers 27-24.

Despite going up against a sound pass defense, Goff was able to complete 39 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams’ duo of star receivers, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, were open on almost every play. Kupp had 11 catches for 145 yards, while Woods grabbed 12 catches of his own for 130 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side, the Bucs’ star receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin each caught touchdowns in the game. Tom Brady had another bag game, throwing two interceptions and completing only 26 passes on 48 attempts.

First Half

After a Tampa Bay punt, Los Angeles struck first on a Goff to Woods touchdown pass. The Buccaneers drove down the field and tied the game after Mike Evans bulldozed his way through two defenders for a touchdown.

Following a punt by the Rams, the Bucs drove quickly down the field, and running back Leonard Fournette capitalized the drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown. The Rams would respond with a short drive of their own, ending in a Van Jefferson receiving touchdown to tie the score at 14.

Right before the half, Goff hit Woods for a 35-yard catch and run, setting up a Matt Gay field goal. The Rams headed into halftime with a 17-14 lead.

Second Half

On just the third play of the second half, Buccaneers’ linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul intercepted Goff and set up the Bucs for a field goal. Two possessions later, Brady threw an errant pass into the hands of Rams’ defensive back Jordan Fuller. With the ball already in scoring position, Goff found running back Cam Akers for a touchdown, putting Los Angeles up 24-17.

The end of the third quarter was somewhat uneventful. Both teams combined for six consecutive punts and the Bucs turned the football over on downs on the following possession. When it finally looked like the Rams had control of the game, the Buccaneers came up with another interception and quickly tied the game on a Godwin touchdown. Goff and the Rams proceeded to drive the field and kick the game-winning field goal, ending the game 27-24.

Highlights

Tampa Bay drops to 7-4 and will have a short week to prepare for the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday. They’ll try to avoid back to back losses before heading into their week 13 bye. Meanwhile, the Rams advance to 7-3 and jump into first place in the NFC West. They face off against the 49ers next week in an important division game.
