Choosing the players who will succeed and benching the ones who will not is essential to winning in fantasy football. Each week, fantasy owners will have to make the tough decision to put a player they like on the bench because the truth is that player is a bust. The willingness to do so is what separates good managers from bad ones. Let’s take a look at five players who could bust in Week 11.
Justin Herbert – QB, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. PIT)
Herbert has been a solid quarterback in fantasy football so far this year, averaging 21.3 fantasy points per game. In Week 11, however, the Chargers are facing a tough Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The Steelers have allowed the eighth-fewest points to quarterbacks, making it hard for Herbert to succeed. Herbert is not a quarterback that should be benched for a waiver-wire pickup, but if a fantasy team has another top-10 quarterback, the alternative should be started in Week 11.
Kirk Cousins – QB, Minnesota Vikings (vs. GB)
Cousins has been a good pickup at quarterback as he is averaging just under 20 fantasy points per game. However, it is unlikely that he is as successful this week. The Green Bay Packers’ defense has been excellent this season and limited Russell Wilson to just 5.64 fantasy points last week while also holding the Seahawks’ offense scoreless. If the Vikings face similar offensive struggles, Cousins could be in line for a poor game.
Antonio Gibson – RB, Washington Football Team (vs. CAR)
Gibson has struggled for most of the year, averaging 13.0 fantasy points per game. Last week, he bounced back, scoring 21.8 fantasy points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he also scored two touchdowns and the Football Team led for a majority of the game, both of which have been uncommon in the 2021 season. With a tough matchup against a Carolina Panthers defense that has been excellent, Gibson may return to his poor form (for fantasy purposes) in Week 11.
Michael Pittman Jr. – WR, Indianapolis Colts (vs. BUF)
Pittman has emerged as a top receiver this season with only two games consisting of single-digit points, but Week 11 could be one of those. The Colts are facing the Buffalo Bills, who have been excellent on both sides of the football. They are allowing the least points to opposing wide receivers and could make it tough for Pittman to succeed.
Tee Higgins – WR, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. LV)
Higgins has been good in fantasy football but has been outshined by Ja’Marr Chase this season. Higgins is averaging 12.9 fantasy points per week compared to Chase’s 18.7. Nonetheless, many fantasy owners are still choosing to start him and should not this week. The Las Vegas Raiders’ defense has been excellent against the pass this year. For fantasy purposes, they are holding opposing receivers to the sixth-fewest points in the league. It would be a mistake to start Higgins unless a team is weak at the receiver position.
