Week 10 Preview: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

Philadelphia Eagles Carson Wentz

In this Week 10 matchup, the 3-4-1 Philadelphia Eagles look to sweep the season series over the 2-7 New York Giants for the fourth year in a row. This comes after the Eagles came back to win the first meeting, 22-21, in Week 7. The Eagles are starting to get healthier, so they will look to make easier work of the lowly Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are coming off their bye week after trouncing the Dallas Cowboys 23-9 in Week 8. Despite throwing two interceptions, Carson Wentz also completed 15 of 27 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. For this week, Wentz will be getting some help. Only one player has been listed as out, and it’s a defensive player, cornerback Craig James. Miles Sanders,  Alshon Jeffery, Lane Johnson, Malik Jackson, Jack Driscoll, and Cre’Von LeBlanc are all set to make their return. Jeffery will make his season debut while Johnson looks to play a full game for the first time since Week 3. Sanders will provide a boost to the Eagles’ run game after being out the last two games. In Week 6 against the Ravens, Sanders ran for 118 yards on nine carries. The return of Jeffery should not take away the playing time from young talents Travis Fulgham and Jalen Reagor, but he will help spread out the offense. At least one of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Quez Watkins will probably be a healthy scratch with Jeffery’s return. Winning the turnover battle will be key for the Eagles, as they have forced five turnovers over the last two games, including three in the last meeting. When the Eagles force two or more turnovers, they are 3-0. When they don’t, they are 0-4-1.

New York Giants

The Giants are coming off their second win of the season, 23-20 over The Washington Football Team, last week. Daniel Jones has been very inconsistent in the passing game, throwing for 200 yards just once in the last four games. The running game will be key for the Giants. They have rushed for 100+ yards the last four games, including 165 against the Eagles. Wayne Gallman rushed for a touchdown for the third straight week against Washington. The Eagles have had issues against physical running teams, allowing 130 yards or more in the last four games. Look for the Giants to have a ground and pound attack. If they get ahead early, they could have a good chance to pull off the upset. But if they get behind, Jones may not have enough to keep them in the game. Golden Tate is also questionable for the game, which is even more bad news for the passing game.

Turnovers will also be a big key for the Giants, as they had five against Washington and 12 over the last six games. The Eagles have had issues giving the ball away this season, but with better weapons and protection, Wentz should have a better time with keeping them down. New York didn’t turn the ball over against Washington, but against the rested and hungry Philly team, that won’t be easy.

Point Spread: PHI -4 (-110) | NYG +4 (-110)

Moneyline: PHI -210 | NYG +170

Over/Under: O 44.5 (-110) | U 44.5 (-110)

The Eagles and Giants played very closely in the last meeting, and it took a last-ditch effort by Wentz to lead the comeback. With the pieces the Eagles get back this week, they could certainly cover the spread. But the way this season has been for them, it isn’t a clear lock. The over should be hit as the Eagles will be looking to click on offense and the Giants could get going on the run game.

Prediction

The Eagles will look and play like the more rested team especially with the pieces they have back. They will have a renewed effort against the run and win by a larger margin than the last time.

Final Score: Eagles 34, Giants 24
