With just three weeks to go in the regular season of the 2021 college football season, the Heisman race is starting to really shape up. Who will find their way to New York on December 11 as the 87th annual Heisman Trophy ceremony takes place?

1. Kenneth Walker III, Michigan State
After cementing himself as the leading Heisman candidate last week, Walker had another great week despite Michigan State getting upset versus Purdue. In the 40-29 Spartans loss, the junior rusher ran for 146 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. Michigan State still has a shot at a Big Ten title as they face Ohio State in two weeks, who also have one loss. Walker will have to put up big numbers for the remaining three weeks to take the Heisman home. The last running back to win the Heisman trophy was Derrick Henry of Alabama back in 2015.
2. Matt Corral, Ole Miss
The second spot right now is a bit of a toss-up between Corral and Young. I keep flip-flopping them week by week. Corral has been able to do more with less and had another great outing on Saturday. Facing off against fellow potential first-round pick Malik Willis of Liberty, the Ole Miss gunslinger led the Rebels to a 27-14 victory. While the former was picked off three times, the latter threw for 324 yards and one touchdown while having just seven incompletions (20-of-27). Next week comes a huge test for Corral and Ole Miss as they face Texas A&M at home in a top 15 matchup. The Aggies are coming off a 20-3 win over Auburn.
3. Bryce Young, Alabama
Young and the Crimson escaped with a narrow 20-14 victory over LSU, and it wasn’t the best day for the quarterback. Nonetheless, even when he’s not at his best, Young is still solid. The six-foot, 194-pound sophomore passed for two touchdowns (has at least two every week) and 302 yards on 24-for-37 passing. He looks almost a certainty to be a finalist for the award, as he has 28 touchdowns to three interceptions on the season.
4. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh
It was another three-touchdown day for the senior Panther, as he eclipsed 400 yards passing and three touchdowns for the second straight week. Pitt plays North Carolina next week, who are coming off an upset victory over previously undefeated Wake Forest.
5. David Bell, Purdue
Bell and the Boilermakers deserve some love. After their win over Michigan State, Purdue has now taken down two top three teams at the time they were playing. A few weeks ago, they took down Iowa after the Hawkeyes had been given their number two ranking. In the win over the Spartans, Bell tied a season-high with 11 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown, one of his better performances to date. His other 200-yard game was against Iowa, in which he had 240 yards and a touchdown. That was his other 11 catch game and he has now eclipsed 1,000 yards with 1,003 receiving yards.
