New York City is currently preparing to celebrate the four-time, FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions the U.S. Women’s National soccer team (USWNT) tomorrow morning with a ticker-tape parade celebration. The event will begin at 9:30 am ET in New York City. Fans from near and far will gather to share in the glory of a fourth U.S. World Cup victory with hopes of seeing the champs hoist the world cup trophy in person.
The victory that will be celebrated is not just the addition of a fourth star to the jersey nor a fourth trophy to put in the trophy case. The tournament run that led to this fantastic achievement broke some records. In this 2019 World Cup, the team broke and set a new record for the highest margin of victory in a single soccer match. Winning a fourth Women’s World Cup also leaves the USWNT with the most Women’s World Cup wins in the world. This tournament run also made head coach Jill Ellis the first-ever women’s soccer coach to win two world cups in the history of the sport.
This historic run is nothing short of amazing. The team stayed true to themselves, their mission, and their gameplan all while fighting backlash the entire way. Staying golden allowed them to bring home the gold in the end. Fans that enjoyed watching the Women’s World Cup can continue to watch these soccer superstars in action as they play for their NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) clubs. Fourteen NWSL games will be broadcast this season on ESPN thanks to a recent sponsorship deal between the two organizations.
