USWNT Have Eyes Set on World Cup Trophy

Levon Satamian | June 6th, 2019

The United States Women’s National Team will look to win back-to-back World Cup titles.

France will host the 2019 World Cup. This USWNT has a lot of talent, but this team will look a lot different than the 2015 World Cup team that featured Abby Wambach, Hope Solo, Sydney Leroux, and Christie Pearce Rampone. The USWNT took care of business in the final against Japan 5-2. Carli Lloyd scored three goals in just sixteen minutes.

This year’s World Cup team will feature:

Goalkeepers: Adrianna Franch, Ashlyn Harris, and Alyssa Naeher.

Defenders: Abby Dahlkemper, Tierna Davidson, Crystal Dunn, Ali Krieger, Kelley O’Hara, Becky Sauerbrunn, and Emily Sonnett.

Midfielders: Morgan Brian, Julie Ertz, Lindsey Horan, Rose Lavelle, Allie Long, and Sam Mewis.

Forwards: Tobin Heath, Carli Lloyd, Jessica McDonald, Alex Morgan, Christen Press, Mallory Pugh, and Megan Rapinoe.

The USWNT has defeated Belgium 6-0, South Africa 3-0, New Zeland 5-0, and Mexico 3-0. They have outscored their opponents 17-0 in the last four matchups. Not only has the attack looked sharp, but Alyssa Naeher looks in elite form, heading into the World Cup.

The USWNT is in Group F, that also features Sweden, Chile, and Thailand. This is a winnable group for the USWNT, and I think the only team standing in between the USWNT and the World Cup trophy, is the host team, France. The last time these two teams met, France got the better of USWNT 3-1. But, this is a different team out there for USWNT, and as I mentioned earlier, Alyssa Naeher looks in elite form. If Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan are on top of their games, it will be tough to defeat the USWNT.
