C.J. Anderson pumped in 23 points but it was not enough as UMass dropped a 68-66 decision to Quinnipiac on Wednesday.

With 14:35 remaining in the opening frame, Andrew Robinson knocked down a 3-pointer to ignite a 9-2 Bobcats run to push Quinnipiac in front, 17-10.

UMass would slice its first-half deficit to as little as one, but the Bobcats would outscore it  21-13 in the closing 9:41 of the half and held a 38-29 lead at the break.

With 5:44 remaining, a Rashaan Holloway dunk gave the Minutemen their first lead, 58-57, since the 16:24 mark of the first half.

However, three fouls, two missed shots and a turnover over by UMass over the 2:52, put it in a 68-54 hole.

Cameron Young iced the Bobcats win with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining, pushing Quinnipiac up, 68-64.

Holloway netted 14 points and grabbed seven boards in the loss.

Quinnipiac did its damage from the free throw line, as it knocked down 22 of 27 attempts  (81.5 percent) and sent UMass to the line just five times, where it connected on three attempts (60.0 percent).

UMass will remain on the road for a game against South Carolina (5-2) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
