Two-Start Pitchers: Week 17 (7/29 – 8/04)

STREAMER OF THE WEEK

Tyler Beede, SP SF

(36% CBS, 7% ESPN, 11% Yahoo)

Tyler Beede’s seasonal stat line leaves much to be desired.  Currently pitching to a 4.85 ERA 1.48 WHIP with an 8.6 K/9, he doesn’t really stand out as a highly touted waiver wire add. But since the calendar has turned to July, he seems to be putting it together:

Since July 2 (last 4 starts):

(2 – 1) 2.63 ERA 0.95 WHIP 7.6 K/9 0.7 BB/9

21.3% K 1.8% BB 1.6 HR/9 19.4% K-BB%

On the season, Beede currently has double digit swinging strike rates on 4 out of 5 of his offerings, with two of them cracking the 20% mark. This should not be ignored.

In his last 4 starts, Beede has 10, 12, 12 and 20 swinging strikes respectively. In this time frame and since July 1, his slider has a 22.0% swinging strike rate, which ranks 19th in baseball. His changeup has a 28.8% swinging strike rate, which ranks 2nd in baseball. And his curveball has a 17.9% swinging strike rate, which ranks 16th in MLB.

Since July 1:

Both of Beede’s starts this week will be on the road, at Philadelphia and at Colorado. A start at Coors would turn most fantasy owners off, along with the fact that Beede is pitching to a 5.54 ERA on the road this season. But since July 1 AT HOME, the Rockies rank 28th in wRC+ (72), 17th in wOBA (.325), 17th in OPS (.417) and 20th in hard hit percentage (35.4%). The Rockies are also 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Since July 1 AT HOME, the Phillies rank 21st in wRC+ (92), 20th in wOBA (.311), 20th in OPS (.745) and 22nd in hard hit percentage (34.2%). Beede will face two sputtering offenses this week and should capitalize on the matchups. Look for Beede to put up two solid performances this week.
