German midfielder Toni Kroos will no longer be representing his native Germany. After winning 106 caps for Die Mannschaft, Kroos has decided to retire from international football. The 31-year-old midfielder was a huge part of Germany’s World Cup triumph in 2014. In 106 caps, Kroos has 17 goals.
Germany was eliminated from Euro 2020 after a 2-0 loss to England. Joachim Löw has stepped down as manager of the German National Team. Hansi Flick will take over as manager. Flick was the assistant coach for Germany from 2006 to 2014. Most recently, he managed Bayern Munich, winning the Champions League in 2020. Indeed, a new era is starting for Die Mannschaft.

Kroos has stated that he intends to fully focus on his domestic football career with Real Madrid. He has been with Los Blancos since 2014 and has won the Champions League three times. Real Madrid is also beginning a new era with the hiring of Carlo Ancelotti as manager. In addition, Ancelotti is the one who persuaded Kroos to move to Real Madrid back in 2014. Through leadership and expertise, Kroos, Luka Modrić, and Karim Benzema are key to helping Real Madrid return to its winning ways. Furthermore, Kroos is under contract with Los Blancos until 2023.
Real Madrid begins La Liga play on August 15. They’re also participating in the upcoming UEFA Champions League tournament. The group stage draw for the tournament takes place on August 26th. With the departure of Sergio Ramos, Kroos could become the team’s new captain. Los Blancos are aiming to be a winning club again.
Germany will resume its World Cup qualifying campaign in September. Die Mannschaft is off to a rough start as they sit third in their group below Armenia and North Macedonia. Under the management of Flick, a lot of big changes are to take place. However, finding a replacement for Kroos may prove to be a very difficult task.
