The 2019 NFL season is almost upon us has the Green Bay Packers head to soldier field to take on their rival the Chicago Bears, what should you expect from this game fantasy wise?

General Fantasy Preview

The Packers and Bears split the season series last year after each team won once at home, neither team scored more than 24 points against each other. Aaron Rodgers threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns to comeback and beat Chicago in the first matchup at Lambeau Field. Rodgers then had a stat-line of 274 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception in the second match up that was played at soldier field. Neither Mitchell Trubisky or Rodgers threw for a touchdown when playing on the road against each other. Each defense gave up 17+ points in their season series last year. I expect another close battle that could be more low scoring this time around.

Plays

Davante Adams, WR, Green Bay Packers

Adams was consistent against the Bears no matter where they played. In the first matchup at home, Adams racked up five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. In the second matchup of the series on the road in Chicago, Adams didn’t let that stop him from having a good game. He racked up eight catches for 119 yards in the loss. Adams is a reliable option to start in fantasy even against the killer Bears defense.

Allen Robinson, WR, Chicago Bears

Although Robinson didn’t light up the Packers last season he did have some decent games against them. In the first meeting of the season, Robinson made four catches for 61 yards to lead the team. The second game Robinson had three receptions for 54 yards to also lead the team. I expect Trubisky and the Bears offense to target Robinson more this time around and that could make him a good WR2/ flex option in most leagues.

Aaron Jones, RB, Green Bay Packers

Jones didn’t play much against the Bears last season but that will change this year now that he is back and healthy. I expect the Chicago defense to focus on Rodgers which will open up opportunities for Jones to break loose and make some big plays. Jones racked up 728 yards and eight touchdowns on 133 attempts on the ground last season and looks to reach even further heights this year. I believe the Packers will utilize Jones and play to his strengths. He is a good RB2 and/or flex option this week.

Stay Aways

Packers Defense

Although the Packers made some great additions to their defense this season I would not start them against the bears due to inconsistencies last season. They allowed the Bears offense to score 20+ in both meetings and didn’t force a turnover in either match up. I would sit the Packers defense this week and look into more reliable options on the waiver wire.

Tarik Cohen, RB, Chicago Bears

Cohen is an interesting running back and fantasy option. While he possesses the skill to be a weapon in both the running and passing game he didn’t receive many touches against the Packers last season. Chicago also drafted David Montgomery who will be splitting carries and opportunities with Cohen making him a less reliable option in fantasy. I would not start Cohen this week and maybe not any week until we see how he will be utilized moving forward.

Mitchell Trubisky, QB, Chicago Bears

Although Trubisky could be a potential QB2/super flex option in some leagues I believe he is not worth starting this week because he won’t score enough fantasy points. In the two meetings against the Packers last season Trubisky threw for 406 yards and only two touchdowns. Those numbers aren’t consistent and high enough to warrant a start for Trubisky this week. I also expect the Bears to rely heavily on the duo of Cohen and Montgomery in the running game.
