Thursday Night Football Week 3 DFS

Well, it is time for week three. If you thought the last couple of Thursday night games were offensively rough, then wait for this one. In 2018 when the Tennessee Titans faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville, the final score was 9-6. The Titans ultimately ended up winning the field goal battle. Here are my top DFS picks for the Titans vs Jaguars Showdown contest.

Captain Slot (DK) and MVP Slot (FD)

Gardner Minshew (13,800 DK Captain | 9,200 DK | 14,000 FD)

For this contest you do not have to worry about saving money and taking a cheaper captain. This is because there is not a lot of high priced stars in this game. I like Minshew as my captain because I love Minshew’s running ability. He just ran for 56 yards on six carries last week. Minshew is going to use his escape ability to keep the defense honest in this matchup against an inconsistent Titans team. Look for Minshew to put up decent numbers and be the highest scorer in this contest.

Flex Plays

Cairo Santos (3,600 DK | 9,500 FD) & Josh Lambo (3,400 DK | 9,000 FD)

Both kickers are going to be valuable players in tonight’s game. Looking back on last year’s game in Jacksonville, the kickers were the only source of points for both teams. This game will be just like that. I would even consider playing a couple of lineups with either kicker as your captain in GPP contests.

Derrick Henry (10,600 DK | 15,000 FD)

I like Henry this week just based on his ability to make a big play. Any time he gets handed the ball, he can take it to the house. Just like week one, he took a screenplay for 75 yards and a touchdown. If you remember, Henry also ran for a 99-yard touchdown in the Thursday night game last year against the Jaguars.

Leonard Fournette (9,800 DK | 13,000 FD)

Fournette is a good play because of his pass-catching ability. He is a three-down back so he is going to get the carries and receptions. In the Jaguars first two games this year, Fournette has had four receptions in each game. He has also had double-digit carries in both games, even though the Jaguars never had a lead in either. He will keep that going this week and hopefully gain enough yards on the ground and through the air to be valuable in your flex spot.

Players to Avoid

Marcus Mariota (10,000 DK | 14,500 FD)

Mariota is going to struggle. In both games against the Jaguars last year, he only threw for 262 yards combined. He did not throw a touchdown in either game and had one interception. Look for his struggles against the Jaguars to continue. I would also consider playing Ryan Tannehill in a couple of GPP contests, just in case of an injury or if Mariota gets benched.

Corey Davis (6,000 DK | 9,000 FD)

Davis has not lived up to his hype at all. He was drafted with the fifth pick in 2017. There was hope that he would be the number one receiver the Titans desperately needed. However, I don’t believe it is all his fault. Let’s be honest, if he had a quarterback that actually used receivers, he might be worth playing. Unless Tannehill comes in, he will have another poor performance.

Game Predictions

I hope you were not expecting a high scoring game in this contest. This game will make Pat McAfee very proud. This game will be “For the brand,” as McAfee would say. Kickers are people too and you are going to see why in this game. Punts and field goals will go back and forth. My final score prediction is 16-9, Jaguars winning. Minshew will cap off the game-winning drive with a touchdown.
