Three Possible Trades for the Houston Texans

Three Possible Trades for the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans season has been a disaster from the beginning. As the trade deadline approaches they could at least set themselves up for the rebuild that will be coming this offseason. Bill O’Brien is gone, which is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, his mistakes still loom heavy on the Texans organization.

Houston will be without its first and second-round selections in the upcoming draft. Currently 1-6, those are going to be very nice picks. Both are owed to the quickly rebuilding Miami Dolphins. Given the team’s record, the inevitable coaching move following this season, and not owning their own top picks, the Texans are clearly going to be sellers at the deadline.

Trade #1: Will Fuller and a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for a 2021 second-round pick

The Texans include a fifth-round pick here because it gives them a buyer willing to part with a second. As previously stated, the Texans own no picks in rounds one or two currently. If throwing in the fifth is the icing on the cake to secure a second-round pick, it’s worth it. Fuller is entering free agency following this season, and the new front office won’t have money to pay him to stick around.

The Packers decide they’re going to go all-in for another couple of runs with Aaron Rodgers. It’s unlike the franchise to part ways with such a valuable pick, but they can’t afford to not address the position. Fuller is a game-changer, and playing alongside Davante Adams would make him that much more lethal.  It’s risky, but it gives the Pack a strong group to make a push with. If nothing else, the Packers owe Rodgers another explosive offense before his time runs out.

Trade #2: Kenny Stills to the New Orleans Saints for a 5th-round draft pick

Another wide receiver, Stills is much less of the team’s offense today, and more of a guarantee to not be resigned this off-season. He’s totaled 18 targets in seven games this season. At 28 years old, there’s no doubt the end is coming for the Texans and Stills. This move makes sense because, frankly, any compensation would be a win given the circumstances.

The Saints step in and attempt to make sure their wide receiver group remains functioning moving forward. It’s a rental from their side, but it’s for a solid veteran, and Brees is running out of playoff chances. Given the recent Michael Thomas events and Emmanuel Sanders current situation, the Saints should move quickly to lock up a reliable target behind those two.

Trade #3: Duke Johnson to the Tennessee Titans for a 2021 sixth-round draft pick

Duke Johnson doesn’t offer much to an offense unless strictly being used to catch the ball. His season-high in rushing yards through five games is 24 yards. He does provide value as a third-down back, though, which the Texans simply don’t need right now. Everything must be done to revamp the team’s draft capital, making it easy to part with Johnson.

The Titans’ interest comes as they see things playing out with Dion Lewis no longer in the picture. Derrick Henry is more than capable of working his fair share in passing downs, but the Titans would prefer at least having an option for subs in passing situations. A sixth-round pick won’t make them lose any sleep, and it will help them move past the trade deadline much more confidently.
