Luka Garza was on the court for Iowa on Thursday night, so we’ll recap his special performance and get you ready for Friday’s slate of big games.
Welcome to today’s Daily Dunk where we recap all of college basketball’s biggest games from yesterday and give you a look at the matchups to watch later today!
Yesterday’s Biggest Games
Western Illinois 58 vs. #3 Iowa 99
The only reason anyone was going to watch this game (aside from fans of the two teams) was to see potential Player of the Year Garza, and he did not disappoint. Garza led his team in scoring yet again, scoring 35 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
It wasn’t much of a game between Western Illinois and Iowa but the Hawkeyes’ next game will be a tough matchup, as they play Roy Williams and #14 North Carolina next Tuesday. If Iowa can win that game, they will be 4-0.
Washburn 54 vs. #7 Kansas 89
Bill Self‘s team has had one heck of a schedule to start their season, which included a loss to top-ranked Gonzaga and a win over #20 Kentucky in the Champions Classic. You could say they deserved a bye game against a team like Washburn.
Jalen Wilson, David McCormack, and Ochai Agbaji combined to score over half of the Jayhawks points. Kansas improved to 3-1 with the win and will play North Dakota State before going up against #9 Creighton next Tuesday.
#25 Arizona State 70 vs. California 62
Cal kept this game close at home, as they were down just six points with five minutes remaining. Mental mistakes prevented the Golden Bears from making it a one-possession game, as they fall to 2-2 and face UCLA on Sunday. Cal turned the ball over 20 times.
The Sun Devils might hang onto that Top 25 ranking this week, but will have to beat San Diego State next week if they want to be ranked two Mondays from now. Marcus Bagley was injured in their win over Cal so his status is uncertain.
Games to Watch Today
#4 Wisconsin vs. Marquette
How to Watch: Friday, December 4, 7:00 PM ET, FS1
Wisconsin has not been tested yet this season in non-conference play, and proof of that is their 25-0 start against Arkansas Pine-Buff in their second game of the season. Marquette is likely going to be their most competitive game so far. The Badgers are scheduled to play Michigan State on Christmas Day, but before that they get a few easy games and should remain in the top-10 through December assuming there are no upsets.
#21 Oregon vs. Seton Hall
How to Watch: Friday, December 4, 9:00 PM ET, FS1
Seton Hall lost Myles Powell to the NBA, so they are not going to be a better team than they were last season and will get a tough matchup with the Ducks later tonight. This will be the Oregon’s second game of the season after they were upset by Missouri on Wednesday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
Seton Hall will have a good chance at stealing this game in Eugene. Oregon point guard Will Richardson, had left thumb surgery and will be out for at least six weeks. St. John’s transfer L.J. Figueroa had his transfer waiver approved, so he will be able to provide an impact this season for the Ducks.
Bellarmine vs. #6 Duke
How to Watch: Friday, December 4, 7:00 PM ET, ACCN
Duke was upset by Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans in the Champions Classic on Tuesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium but will look to get their second win of the season in their third straight home game. If the Blue Devils want to remain in the top-10, they will need to win convincingly because their offense has not been consistent yet two games into the season.
