The New York Mets have been one of the most active teams this offseason and it does not look like the front office has any intention of taking their foot off the gas pedal.

One of their needs at the moment is an answer at third base. That can be done through trade or roster reconstruction with players like J.D. Davis and Jeff McNeil.
The Target
The Cincinnati Reds have stated recently that they plan to contend but also have some payroll constrictions. One player, Eugenio Suárez is under a long-term contract with one of the higher payroll numbers on the team. The 29-year-old is in the midst of a seven-year $66 million deal that runs through 2024.
Suarez is due to make $10.75 million in 2021 and is one of the better third baseman in the game. His defense is superior to many with a .957 career fielding percentage between shortstop and third base. In 2018 Suarez put up 34 home runs and followed up with 49 homers in 2019. In 2020 he hit 15 in just 231 plate appearances. Suarez is a productive player in a position of high demand and may yield a high return to help out an unfinished Mets roster.
Steve Cohen’s franchise is looking to fill out their offense and Suarez could fill that void. With the Francisco Lindor trade, the Mets had to give up two middle infielders in Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario. Robinson Cano was suspended earlier in the offseason leaving McNeil as the logical replacement at second base. With this configuration, Davis would man the hot-corner leaving the infield with a sub-par defense. A solution to that would be Suarez.
How Would A Trade Look?
The Mets have plenty to offer the Reds, who are looking to reallocate their resources. New York would be taking on a contract that isn’t the smallest so they would send another contract over to help ease. That would be in the form of Jeurys Familia. Cincinnati could use some help in the bullpen, so that would be welcomed.
The Reds are also losing a third baseman and Davis would be a nice replacement. They also would like to fill their rotation out and may be looking at someone who could use a change of scenery. Once a dominant minor leaguer, Corey Oswalt has been thrown into just about every bad situation you can think of and may needs a fresh start. He would represent some depth for Cincinnati and a nice piece if fixable.
Cincinnati will also be looking for a piece with upside to sweeten the deal. The Mets would throw in Daison Acosta, a right-handed pitching prospect only a year or two away.

Ridiculously bad. While the Reds would not be against unloading the contract in a rebuild you are sending nothing of value back whatsoever. And the Reds do not want any contracts back. Oswalt is a throw-in worth nothing. Familia is poor. The Reds do not need a 3B in return. While Davis has some worth, the Reds have options, including a top prospect, for that position. Acosta is the only piece worth including whatsoever. The priority for the Reds in any trade is a pitcher and SS. So you are looking at Suarez for Acosta and Mauricio.
