Here’s a look at 10 true or false questions pertaining to the Tennessee Titans, albeit in May.
The 2020 Draft Class will make an immediate impact
True. First-round pick Isaiah Wilson, the offensive tackle out of Georgia, will fill the void left by Jack Conklin signing with the Cleveland Browns. When he’s on the field he will open up holes for Derrick Henry.
Cornerback Kristian Fulton out of LSU was a steal for the Titans at the 61st pick, he will solidify the defensive secondary, one that proved susceptible to the long pass, especially against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
The Titans also addressed potential backups to their most essential offensive players in Derrick Henry and Ryan Tannehill, with running back Darrynton Evans (third round) and quarterback Cole McDonald (seventh round).
Defensive lineman Larrell Murchison (fifth round) and defensive back Chris Jackson (seventh round) will fill out the depth chart on the defensive front and secondary respectively.
They are still in the Clowney Sweepstakes
True. While talks have seemed to stall between the biggest name left in the free-agent market, Jadeveon Clowney, and any team, the Titans remain on his shortlist of suitors. The New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks are two of the other teams reportedly still in the running.
The loss of Logan Ryan is bigger than the loss of Jurrell Casey
False. While Ryan’s veteran leadership in the secondary will be missed, Casey impacted the game in ways it didn’t show up on the stat sheet. He was often the guy who got the double team.
Ryan Tannehill will have similar success as the starter Week 1
True. While the team’s fan base was about evenly divided this time a year ago when Tannehill was first brought in. The loyal Marcus Mariota fans dismissed the reasoning behind signing the former Miami Dolphins signal-caller. But once he got on the field all the pessimists quickly changed their tune. He ran this offense effectively, and when needed he put the team on his back. That will continue this upcoming season
Derrick Henry will continue to dominate defenses on the ground
True. Maybe the truest one on the list. Defenses knew Henry was coming and couldn’t stop him, just rewatch the playoff game against the Ravens. The Chiefs slowed him down in the AFC Championship Game but that had as much to do with being behind on the scoreboard and the play-calling changing accordingly. Henry will have a better statistical season than a season ago.
Corey Davis will make a case for a new contract
False. The team declined Davis’ fifth-year option last week and rightfully so. The former number five overall pick has, with the exception of a handful of plays, been otherwise a pedestrian wide receiver. If he plays lights out, they may consider resigning him after the season, but their money is on…
A.J. Brown will go from breakout rookie to top 10 receiver
True. Brown made a late-season push for the Rookie of the Year Award. But as the season wore on he became Tannehill’s go-to target. His speed and vision after the catch will move him into the upper echelon of NFL wide receivers, in just his sophomore season.
The pass rush will be much improved
False. The addition of former Falcons linebacker Vic Beasley is a nice addition to add to Harold Landry and Rashaan Evans. The emergence of Jeffrey Simmons last season will solidify the defensive front. The only way this would change to true is if they win the Clowney Sweepstakes.
They can win the AFC South
True. The Texans, Colts, and the Jaguars have shaken up their rosters. The biggest thorn in the side of the Titans for the last few seasons was Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins who was traded to Arizona this off-season.
There will be an under the radar hero for this team
True. Tight end Jonnu Smith will have another solid season and will make a bigger impact and will continue to ascend on the national radar.
