Tennessee Titans True or False: August Edition

August is here and as the NFL season inches closer and closer, it’s time for the next monthly installment of the Tennessee Titans True or False Series.

Author’s note: While some of the questions from previous installments will be reassessed, new ones will be addressed.

Now that the Derrick Henry deal is done, it’s all systems go

True. Henry and the Titans getting a deal done was a lingering storyline in Nashville since the team slapped the franchise tag on him. While Henry could have demanded much more than the $50 million that the sides ultimately agreed too, his loyalty to the team and wanting them to succeed outweighed his greed. Henry, Ryan Tannehill, and A.J. Brown and company are ready for business.

The Titans are still in the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes

True. Titans general manager Jon Robinson has continued to say that he wants to get Clowney in the building and see him in person before making any serious attempt at signing the free agent edge rusher. With the uncertainty surrounding offseason addition Vic Beasley, with him not yet reporting and rumors swirling that he may decide to opt-out, Clowney may be that much more of a must sign for the Titans.

Kevin Byard isn’t phased by not making the NFL top 100 list

False. Byard, the Titans safety already plays with a chip on his shoulder. Being snubbed from the list will make him that much more dangerous in the secondary. He will make sure he makes next year’s edition.

Wide receiver Corey Davis not reporting yet is a big deal

False. While it’s never ideal for a wide receiver not to report, especially one towards the top of the depth chart. Wide receiver is the one area that has depth on this roster. Brown, who like Byard, will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after also being snubbed on the top 100 list. Adam Humphries and Kalif Raymond are all viable targets for Tannehill. Along with the way the offensive system utilizes their tight ends, no Davis wouldn’t decimate the offense. After the team declined his fifth-year option in the offseason it’s clear they were playing on being without him after this season.

Will they have key players opt-out?

True. Other teams have had a handful of guys decide to opt-out. As of now, only backup offensive tackle Anthony McKinney has opted out for the Titans. Along with the rumors around Beasley, there are also some rumblings around offensive tackle Dennis Kelly contemplating opting out. That would be a blow to the team offensively as he was projected to be the starting right tackle. But the Titans like the other teams will have to readjust to the new normal.
