Los Angeles Angels 2022 Season Preview
It will be 20 years since the Angels won their only World Championship. Trout, Ohtani, and the rest of the Halos look to bring home another one in 2022.

After another disappointing season for the Angels, General Manager Perry Minasian has his work cut out for him. Can he deliver?
The Halos have been blessed with some of the biggest names in the sport during their first half-century plus. Hence, the exercise of examining the Los Angeles, Anaheim, California Angels all-time 26-man roster.
Even the historic season of Shohei Ohtani was not enough to end the Los Angeles Angels seven-season playoff drought alive.
The All-Star Game isn’t exactly the halfway point in the season (most teams have played close to 90 games at this point) but it’s a logical stopping point to access which players are dominating. I did this exercise at the quarter-point in the season, it’s interesting to see how things have changed (or not) since then. As the season goes on, we’ll do this again at the three quarters through the year and then at the end of the season. A Rookie of the Year category has been added for this checkpoint and will be included in the two editions later in the season.
The Babe Ruth comparisons continued as the Angels Shohei Ohtani arrived in Denver for the 2021 All-Star festivities. The two-way sensation is not Ruth. There will never be another Babe Ruth. However, in many ways, he may be something better. He’s ShowTime! Something needed in today’s often cynical sports world. Evident in his epic first-round derby battle with another young face of baseball.
After a one-year hiatus, the Home Run Derby is back to take center stage. But the return of the event on baseball’s calendar this season is bound to be special for other reasons as well.
In mid-May, the Angels cut Albert Pujols and lost perennial MVP candidate Mike Trout to injury. They have responded by playing winning baseball since
Shohei Ohtani is now fully healed from the Tommy John surgery that limited him exclusively to designated hitter the past two seasons. The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher took the mound at Yankee Stadium yesterday afternoon for his 12th game started this year.
There is a full host of games around Major League Baseball on Tuesday, but fans will have one eye on Tampa Bay. The second-place Rays (43-30) host the first-place Boston Red Sox (43-29) in an American League East tilt, but that is not the only attraction.
Welcome back, Diamond pickers. Today’s MLB landscape features plenty of games to put wagers on. What could be the game of the day, Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets playing host to Blake Snell and the San Diego Padres, won’t be on my card based on the difficulty to predict how the Mets will perform behind the “deGrominator.”
Mike Trout will miss 6-8 weeks with a calf strain. What does that mean for the Angels and how terrible is it to lose the best player in all of baseball?
