Another day, another division preview! The start of the regular season is almost here. T-minus less than two weeks! Are you excited? I’m excited. In fact, I think this could be the most interesting season for both players and for fans. So many teams switched up their rosters in a drastic way and that can only mean one thing: there’s going to be plenty of drama.
Basketball is finally here. While it’s just preseason, the Miami Heat are off to an impressive start. With that said, here are my four takeaways from the Heat’s preseason win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Ten years ago, he was just a kid putting up shots and working on his game in the town’s local rec center. Today, Derrick White is sitting on the edge of basketball stardom. “Crazy” is the sentiment repeatedly conveyed by the San Antonio Spurs point guard while talking about his journey from the local rec center gym all the way to getting selected in the first round of the NBA draft. He’s not wrong, his story is crazy, but also extraordinary.
The Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and Orlando Magic all have interest in trading for DeMar DeRozan.
The San Antonio Spurs are coming off a 48-34 campaign as the seven seed in the Western Conference. They enter the biggest offseason in recent memory with burning questions just like any other team in the league. With two selections in round one, San Antonio can afford to trade up if they so choose to or stay put. Whatever decisions are made will undoubtedly be viewed as franchise-altering for the foreseeable future. Here’s a peek at what the Spurs can accomplish this Thursday night in Brooklyn.
There is more skepticism around the Denver Nuggets than your typical two-seed. Despite challenging the Golden State Warriors for the top spot in the West for much of the year and finishing with a 54-28 record, the Nuggets’ inexperience led to many questioning whether their playoff acumen, especially when they matched-up against the wily, veteran-laden San Antonio Spurs in the first round. And although the Texas outfit forced a game seven last night with a 120-103 victory at home, the performance of Nikola Jokic should give Denver heart that they have a superstar who can shine in the postseason for years to come.
What a season it has been for both teams. The Nuggets came into the season off a heartbreaking Game 82 loss that kept them out of the playoffs last season. This year, they pushed all the way up to the second-best record in the Western Conference despite being one of the youngest teams in the league and leading the league in games lost due to injury, missing at least one starter for over 60 games this season. The San Antonio Spurs are right in the thick of it as usual, and they did it without having any of the trio of Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker or the “heir apparent” Kawhi Leonard. Despite not having the usual cast, the team has stuck to the same style of play that has kept them among the most consistently good teams in the league over the last 20 years. Here’s what to expect from each team going into the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs.

The NBA trade deadline is just around the corner and the rumor machine is on fire. While most teams won’t make a deal, each will consider many options between now and the February 7th deadline.
