The Arizona Coyotes have more to worry about than where they are going to play next season. They are in need of a breakout year, but nothing they try seems to help. There are those who believe that a “tank” might be the best thing for the franchise.
The Tampa Bay Lightning should be chomping at the bit to get the 2021-2022 season underway. The Lightning are looking to make it three in a row, accomplishing a feat that hasn’t been done in the NHL since the 1980s.
The 2020-2021 NHL season was a chaotic one for a multitude of reasons. The Columbus Blue Jackets were hit harder by this than most.
It appears the Washington Capitals are in it to win it. They didn’t do much during the off-season and didn’t make any crazy changes with their core players, which is understandable.
In adding Taylor Hall to a team that already had Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart, the 2020 campaign looked promising. But, as we all know, the season unraveled rather quickly, and they ended up dead last in the Eastern Division, with 15 wins.
The Calgary Flames have missed the postseason as many times as they have made it in since their 2004 Cup run. More recently it has been six times in the last ten seasons where they have not made it, and now the Flames enter ’21-’22 off a notable offseason.
The Carolina Hurricanes had a great season in 2020-2021. The playoffs, however, were not so kind to them.
Littered with young offensive firepower, the Florida Panthers finished second in the Central Division a year ago. Winners of 37 games during the NHL’s COVID-19 shortened season, they finished inside the league’s top five in goals for, scoring 189.
The Pittsburgh Penguins finished first in their division last season. However, they sadly lost to the New York Islanders in the first round.
Due to Covid restrictions, the Chicago Blackhawks played in a redrawn division in the Central. While they finished third last with a record of 24-25-7, on a brighter note, they did have a winning home record of 13-11.
The Los Angeles Kings keep on trucking with their rebuild. 2020-21 was headlined by a Jeff Carter trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins, along with a bottom eight finish in the standings. Safe to say the Kings have been in a rut these last number of years.
In their final season at Nassau Coliseum, well, the second final season at the Coliseum, the Islanders went a game further than they did against the year prior. Unfortunately, it was just from game six of the third round to game seven of the same round against the same team, the Lightning.
