To help those get ready for the upcoming season, I have put together a six-part series breaking down my early rankings for the 2021 season. Last up in the series will be my top-12 tight end.
In the dynamic pass and run offenses in the NFL, there has been an emphasis on receivers who can do a variety of different things. Jaylen Waddle is very dynamic. He can play outside, in the slot, and as a decoy in the backfield. The smaller wideout has a tremendous skill set, which Waddle shows off on nearly every play.
Multiple reports on Saturday said that the Matthew Stafford trade would be finalized before the Super Bowl. Well, the trade happened later that night. Late on Saturday night, the Detroit Lions found a trade partner for Stafford. Ultimately, it was the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams weren’t even thought of as a potential suitor until late in the process. The Rams divisional foe, the 49ers, was thought of to be the running partner for the Lions in the trade. In the end, the Rams gave a king’s ransom to the Lions for Stafford.
Small school stud alert! D’Wayne Eskridge sneakily rose up draft boards the more scouts watched smaller school prospects. He is a former cornerback. The transition is fairly common, but it usually consists of wide receivers transitioning to cornerback. Why is this important? He knows everything they will try to do to him, and that is high-level knowledge, especially from a small school prospect.
In college football, there are many cases where players are a running back and a receiver hybrid. Last year, Lynn Bowden was in this territory, and this year, there is yet another player that could be held in the same regard. Demetric Felton was once a wide receiver once he made his way to UCLA, and then Chip Kelly turned him into a running back. Over the last two years, Felton has had 218 carries to go along with 77 catches. He is a swiss-army knife that can be deployed just about anywhere on the field.
Once again, among the NFL’s elite during the 2020 season, the Green Bay Packers won 13 games for a second season in a row. Backed behind one of the best offensive lines in the league and a much-improved defense down the stretch, the team closed out the regular season with six straight victories.
