KTM has officially chosen violence for the 50th season of AMA Pro Motocross. Just a hair over a week after Antonio Cairoli declared for the first two rounds of the series, Ryan Dungey is now set for the same schedule with Red Bull KTM.
On the docket for the MXGP lads this weekend was the annual trip to Latvia at the Kegums facility. The former Motocross Des Nations host track serves as the home race for native Latvian and former MX2 World Champion Pauls Jonass.
The 50th season of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is just over a month out from now. There is a ton of excitement and hype for this season due to the rumored involvement of some MXGP riders who are not running overseas at the moment.
The 2022 MXGP season hit the quarter-way mark on Sunday as the series made its second of four stops in Italy. The Trentino circuit, which is one of the world’s best tracks in terms of layout and ambiance, had a notable twist for 2022.
MXGP is back in Europe after their lone round in the Americas prior to Des Nations in the fall. As the most recent round in Argentina, the GP of Portugal was the first stop in the country in some time, since 2019 to be exact.
The first flyaway MXGP round of 2022 did not take long to get here. Just in round three, the World Motocross Championship had its lone Grand Prix in the western hemisphere in Argentina.
The MXGP riders made their first stop to Italy this weekend at the Lombardia circuit. Tim Gajser, the preseason favorite, opened up the premier class a week ago with a 1-2 for the Grand Prix win, which was more or less expected.
After a week’s delay due to some heavy wind damage, MXGP made its season debut in southeast England on Sunday. No Jeffrey Herlings, no Romain Febvre, but there was still plenty of other notable storylines heading into, and leaving Sunday.
This year’s MXGP class season will begin in a very odd fashion. The top two points finishers from a year ago, Jeffrey Herlings and Romain Febvre are both set to miss time to begin the year.
The 2022 World Motocross tilt is now just days away from beginning at Matterley Basin in England. MX2’s World Title is up for grabs this year with Maxime Renaux off to the MXGP class, leaving Tom Vialle, Jago Geerts, and others left to duke it out.
The MXGP season is less than three weeks out, and the defending World Champion’s status for the Matterly Basin opener is now in serious question. On Monday, Jeffrey Herlings, practicing in Spain, injured his left foot after a crash.
