A week ago in Indianapolis, Alexander Rossi at long last broke his multi-year winless streak in IndyCar. Although far out of the title picture, that was a massive win for that Andretti Autosport No. 27 team, as he is at the beginning of the end with the team.
Before a multi-week break, IndyCar made their annual stop at one of America’s premier road courses, Road America. The four-mile road course has played a role in U.S. open-wheel racing dating back to the early 80s and consistently provides good racing.
Off the heels of another fantastic Indianapolis 500, IndyCar made the usual post 500 stop at Belle Isle, just outside of Detroit. Marcus Ericsson with his monster win took home a record-winning purse of over three million dollars.
It became evident very quickly in the month of May that Chip Ganassi Racing had some rocketships for the 500. Scott Dixon maybe more so than the rest after an all-time qualifying effort last weekend.
At 45 years old this year, Jimmie Johnson was not your typical IndyCar rookie. Not even factoring in his seven NASCAR Cup Series Championships, the California native was entering a whole new world.
