The NASCAR playoffs are now a couple of races in. Meaning the first of three cutoff races is just a day away from the Last Great Coliseum at Bristol.
A big domino, albeit an expected one, has now fallen in NASCAR Silly Season. 2004 Cup Series Champion Kurt Busch is officially headed to 23XI Racing at the conclusion of the 2021 campaign.
Kyle Larson led the final 26 laps on Sunday en route to his fifth win on the season. Moreover, he caught Denny Hamlin in the point race (both have 917 points). Despite this, he would not be free of controversy. On the 55th lap, Larson and Christopher Bell had a dust-up that would leave Bell on the losing end. As Larson attempted to overtake Bell in turn 1, his brakes evidently locked up, which would cause Bell to spin out. Bell finished seventh in the race.
After seeing Kurt Busch pull off the surprise victory to put himself in the playoffs two races ago, Aric Almirola would go and trump that feat in New Hampshire, winning his first-ever Cup race at a track other than a Superspeedway. His win would require getting past three fellow Ford drivers late in the race, including SHR teammate Kevin Harvick and Penske’s Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney.
It is now that wonderful time of year in the NASCAR realm where team and driver moves for next year are heavily speculated on. This year, a few moves have already been set in place. Including a few that have been announced within the last couple of days. As of Thursday this week here is where most things stand and what could possibly lie ahead.
Fourth times the charm for Kyle Larson: after going through three straight weeks of finishing runner-up, he finally cracked it at Charlotte. Beginning the race on pole, Larson showed to be the class of the field from the outset, leading the first 86 laps.
In what was a miserable Sunday afternoon last week at the Circuit of the Americas as Chase Elliott again found himself on top at a road course. While he didn’t have the fastest car all day, Elliott was able to hover among the top-four drivers capitalizing on his opportunities.
For the majority of last Sunday’s event at Darlington, Martin Truex Jr. was in the zone. Truex Jr. would stay strong once he was able to gain that very early foothold (leading a whopping 248 of 293 laps). However, it would not be a smooth finish, considering Kyle Larson’s hard charge in the waning laps.

This track is in its third year of being on the NASCAR cup series schedule. It has also been scheduled every year as a cut-off race in the second round of the playoffs which makes it a very important race.
It was a very convincing showing for Martin Truex Jr, taking over the lead from Denny Hamlin during the first wave of pit stops and not relinquishing it from there on out. In dominating fashion, Truex would lead 464 of the race’s 500 laps, if there was one driver that had at least a little something for the nineteen it would be William Byron.
