Into the 80s with Tom Greene- A Possible Wild Card Matchup

The end of the baseball season is getting closer. As temperatures begin to drop, the heat begins to rise on the teams that haven’t yet joined the 80-win club. After a few days away to take care of employment situations, I return to bring you two more teams that have joined our club. The Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Indians have been battling all season to reach a postseason berth. Now that they’ve reached 80 wins, they both feel they’re almost there. And, they’re telling the rest of the 80s club, (indirectly) “Shut your halfwit pie-holes! We’re trying to make the playoffs!”

OK, that SpongeBob reference may not have been the 80s, but we’re breaking down a team that didn’t even exist in the 80s but have some pretty awesome  “Throwback” uniforms. The Rays help the sunrise on this edition of, “Backtrax MLB!”

Joey Lucchesi, SD @ TOR (49% Owned)
Lucchesi has seemingly struggled this season compared to last, as his strikeout rate and his ERA have regressed. However, his walk rate and HR/9 have both decreased as well, leading to a lower FIP. His xFIP and SIERA both point to him being better than his ERA currently shows, making him an interesting pitcher going forward. He gets an interesting matchup here, going against a Toronto offense that has a 65 wRC+ at home and a 72 wRC+ against lefties.

In my last offering, I suggested using the Rays’ bulk reliever as a streaming option on Wednesday. Jalen Beeks got the call to follow Ryne Stanek as an opener. The outing wasn’t quite was I was expecting or hoping to see from Beeks.

Pitchers are a fickle thing. The injuries they sustain can be sudden and yet season- or career-altering. It’s hard to depend on them in a long fantasy season, especially when even the most seemingly durable workhorses can go down in a snap. But, injury begets opportunity. As more stalwarts go down, lesser-owned pitchers get opportunities to shine. And thus, streaming becomes more and more viable a practice, although also the playing field becomes more muddied. So here are the options for the Tuesday-Thursday games.
