Welcome Back, hoop heads! We are already into the third week of December and the NBA season, for most teams, is already beginning to take shape for better or worse. Some teams are still fighting the injury bug and others are just losing the fight. We take a deeper look into some of the must-see game this week as we get ready for a slew of games Christmas Day.
This week I wanted to start off a new weekly segment where we spotlight one player in the league who might be flying under the radar, but when you dig deep into the stats they are having a great season thus far. The player spotlight this week is focused on Indiana Pacers third-year player Domantas Sabonis who is having a very productive season.
The NBA’s Most Improved Player award is typically given to players who make a big statistical jump from their previous seasons. Last season, Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo took home the NBA’s Most Improved Player award after having a breakout season. Oladipo set career-highs in points (23.1), field goal percentage (.477), three-point percentage (.371), rebounds (5.2), assists (4.3), and steals (2.4). He also led the Pacers to 48 wins, the fifth seed, and a near-upset of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs, ultimately losing in seven games.
Basketball fans: can you believe we are already into November? Worry not, the NBA season is only going to get better from here. Here is a list of some of the must-see games of this week and as always, enjoy the action.
With the 2018-19 NBA season just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking which teams might have a shot
No one could have imagined this team going on to win 48 games and finish fifth in the Eastern Conference last year. In the playoffs, they went all the way to a game seven with the eventual champion Cavaliers. This team has a lot to build on going into this upcoming season.
The Indiana Pacers, barring trade, effectively capped their offseason after acquiring some helpful pieces in Tyreke Evans, newly drafted Aaron Holiday, Doug McDermott and Kyle O’Quinn, while retooling in an attempt to steal the Eastern Conference after LeBron James’ departure from the team that knocked the Pacers out of the playoffs in 2018. With the top talent in the conference fading, Indiana looks to capitalize on the recent success of Victor Oladipo, Bojan Bogdanovic and the budding talent of Myles Turner to secure a home playoff series and push their limits even further.
