Leading up to the next expansion draft in the NHL on July 21st, we have been previewing each team’s potential protected list and which player they will lose to the Kraken. Today is the Central Division. After only six teams in the Pacific will need to participate (aside from the Kraken, of course), the Central’s eight is a big boost up. They will also have a new team in this division, or at least when the season resets officially on July 28th. So, let’s make some predictions.
The New York Islanders have been surging. They have won seven straight, losing last on February 27th. That was in overtime against the Penguins, and considering they won the two games prior to that, they have a 10 game point streak and last lost in regulation on February 20th, also against Pittsburgh. They have lost just twice at home, and they were both in overtime. Right now, they sit atop the East division with a 17-6-4 record and a .704 points percentage. So of course, the Hockey Gods had to try to stop them.
