The final leg of AMA Pro Motocross begun on Saturday with the Unadilla National. Points leaders Dylan Ferrandis of Star Yamaha looked to preserve a nearly full round points lead over Ken Roczen. His 250 teammate Justin Cooper meanwhile needed to regain momentum, coming off a disastrous Moto 2 at Washougal.
Millville is a consistently great presence on the AMA Pro Motocross schedule and 2021 was no different. A pair of first-time winners this season highlighted some spectacular racing on one of the world’s premier tracks in Minnesota. On top of a change at the top of the 250 pecking order, and an injury scare for a 450 title contender averted with a strong Moto 2.
Despite some threat of scattered storms a few days out, the racing on Saturday at High Point went by without much if any inclement weather. Headlines included a first-time 250 National winner. Zach Osborne had hoped to be set for a successful Motocross title defense, after missing a chunk of Supercross with a back injury. Those hopes have now taken a fatal blow. That same back injury has now knocked Osborne out for the remainder of AMA Pro Motocross. Details below.
Two Nationals into this year’s AMA Pro Motocross season, Eli Tomac has had a disappointing start. The rider who had won three consecutive championships between 2017-2019 has yet to record a top-five moto finish. On top of simply not riding like a top-flight rider on the eye test. With that in mind, I felt a deep dive would be warranted to see if any personal frustrations were warranted as a fan.
