Splash’s Power Rankings through Week 4

While most power rankings will fluctuate wildly, these should stay reasonably similar on a week-to-week basis.

Number 32: Miami Dolphins (ELO: 1264, +0)

The Dolphins are the worst team in the NFL.

Number 31: Arizona Cardinals (ELO: 1284, -1)

It is amazing to think that this joke of a franchise actually tied a game this season. The Cardinals have been getting worse and worse as the season progresses.

Number 30: Denver Broncos (ELO: 1295, +1)

The Broncos had another heart-breaking loss as a roughing the passer penalty extended the Jacksonville drive, leading to a loss.

Number 29: Cincinnati Bengals (ELO: 1310, -1)

A pitiful loss to the Steelers keeps them in the bottom five.

Number 28: Washington Deadskins (ELO: 1325, -1)

The Redskins are dead.

Number 27: New York Giants (ELO: 1346, +2)

The Splash-ELO rating will take some overcoming from the Giants to move higher, but Daniel Jones has infused the team with some sense of vigor and excitement. The Vikings stand between the Giants and a 3-2 record.

Number 26: New York Jets (ELO: 1385, -1)

Sam Darnold moves closer to his return, but the Eagles will crush the Jets in Week 5.

Number 25: Oakland Raiders (ELO: 1393, +1)

The Raiders took care of business in Indianapolis. They currently occupy the No. 6 spot in the AFC playoffs. While they will likely not maintain this pace, it is a positive start for Jon Gruden and co.

Number 24: Atlanta Falcons (ELO: 1422, -2)

This team is terrible. The Texans should drub the Falcons.

Number 23: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (ELO: 1424, +1)

The Buccaneers engineered the upset of the season to this point as they knocked off the Rams in Los Angeles. A win over the Saints next week would mean that the Buccaneers would sit atop the NFC South.

Number 22: Pittsburgh Steelers (ELO: 1442, +1)

Yes, the Steelers won a game. No, they did not beat a good team. They move up a spot because Atlanta is hot trash.

Number 21: Indianapolis Colts (ELO: 1459, -4)

The Colts were eaten alive by Derek Carr. That is not a good look. Patrick Mahomes waits on Sunday Night Football.

Number 20: Jacksonville Jaguars (ELO: 1474, -1)

The Jaguars were jumped by a pair of teams who beat better teams on the road. The Jaguars did not control much of the game, and they were a roughing the passer penalty away from losing. All things considered, a win in Carolina could give the keys of the AFC South to Jacksonville.

Number 19: Carolina Panthers (ELO: 1476, +2)

Carolina’s defense stepped up in a massive way to pull off the upset in Houston. A win over the Jaguars would be another step in the right direction for the Panthers.

Number 18: Tennessee Titans (ELO: 1484, +2)

The definition of inconsistency clocked the Falcons in Atlanta as Marcus Mariota torched a depleted secondary. A matchup with the elite secondary of the Bills awaits.

Number 17: San Francisco 49ers (ELO: 1487, +1)

Due to the general incompetence of the Colts on Sunday, the 49ers get to move up a free spot. Congrats! The 49ers currently are the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture.

Number 16: Buffalo Bills (ELO: 1488, +0)

There was no reason to move the Bills up or down. They kept it competitive against the best team in the NFL, but they did not assert themselves as an elite team in their own right. They have lots of winnable games remaining.

Number 15: Detroit Lions (ELO: 1502, +0)

The Lions likely would have leaped into the top 10 if they had knocked off the Chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes stole a victory from the clenches of Detroit. Detroit barely moved down.

Number 14: Minnesota Vikings (ELO: 1553, -3)

The Vikings forgot that offense matters in the NFL. Yes, the Bears have a really good defense. However, the Vikings helped the Bears out for 60 minutes.

Number 13: Houston Texans (ELO: 1566, -4)

The Texans were putrid against the Panthers. As a whole, that performance is the definition of “yikes.”

Number 12: Los Angeles Chargers (ELO: 1576, +2)

As mentioned when Melvin Gordon decided to hold out, Gordon is not important enough of a player to warrant an increase in the Splash-ELO ratings. Derwin James will be when he returns.

Number 11: Green Bay Packers (ELO: 1576, -1)

The Packers were poor in the red zone. The Packers now head to Dallas for a battle of NFC supremacy with the Cowboys.

Number 10: Philadelphia Eagles (ELO: 1582, +2)

The Eagles are a goofy team. In four weeks, they were down 17 to the Redskins, lost to the Falcons, lost to the Lions, and managed to upset the Packers in Green Bay under less than ideal circumstances.

Number 9: Baltimore Ravens (ELO: 1598, -4)

The offense is the only thing keeping the Ravens from entering free-fall in the power rankings. (Yes, that was weird to type considering that the defense usually carries Baltimore.)

Number 8: Cleveland Browns (ELO: 1603, +5)

Nick Chubb and the Browns pillaged the city of Baltimore, and they now are (technically) leaders in the AFC North for the first time in five seasons. A win on Monday Night Football would give the Browns their first winning record in five seasons as well.

Number 7: Seattle Seahawks (ELO: 1624, +1)

Nothing much to report here. The Seahawks clobbered the Cardinals.

Number 6: New Orleans Saints (ELO: 1638, +1)

The Saints have put themselves into a wonderful position for when Drew Brees comes back. The Saints currently lead the NFC South, and they could extend the lead to two full games as they play the Buccaneers while the Panthers could lose to the swagger of Gardner Minshew.

Number 5: Los Angeles Rams (ELO: 1643, -1)

The Rams were a mess defensively against the Buccaneers. They allowed 55 points (albeit one touchdown was scored by the Tampa defense) and decided to not cover Chris Godwin. The Rams travel to Seattle to rectify the situation.

Number 4: Chicago Bears (ELO: 1655, +2)

In a weird turn of events, Mitch Trubisky getting hurt might help the Bears. Chase Daniel looked precise and competent within the offense, and he should engineer a win over the Raiders if he starts in London.

Number 3: Dallas Cowboys (ELO: 1660, -1)

Similar to Baltimore last week, a loss on the road against another good team is not a major cause for concern. The Cowboys must beat the Packers, though.

Number 2: Kansas City Chiefs (ELO: 1677, +1)

The Chiefs narrowly beat the Lions. They gained a spot due to the mass chaos which occurred in the top few spots. This Chiefs team is very scary.

Number 1: New England Patriots (ELO: 1789, +0)

Tom Brady has more wins in Buffalo since his career started than any quarterback that the Bills have had. That is a sad statistic, but it is fitting for the Pats as they remain on top.
