Should the Jets Trade for Top-Flight Receivers?

Should The Jets Trade For Top-Flight Receivers Julio Jones

The New York Jets stand with an 0-7 record going into week eight against the Kansas City Chiefs. It is expected that they will be 0-8 after that meeting. The current receiving depth consists of Denzel Mims, Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith, and Lawrence Cager. Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman are both injured.

With that being said the Jets truly need help at receiver but not for this season. Despite the terrible record they ought to look to the future to help put themselves in a better position. Crowder is only under contract through 2021 and Perriman is a free agent after the season. With all this information there are a few players that the Jets would be wise to target.

John Ross, WR, CIN

Ross has been rumored to one out of Cincinnati for a few months now. The former top 10 pick was scouted to be a speedy versatile receiver but has yet to fulfill his full potential. His fifth-year option was to exercise this past off-season and will be a free agent at the end of the season. This Can be an interesting sign after a trade scenario. Through 27 career games, ross has 51 receptions for 711 yards and 10 touchdowns.

D.J. Chark, WR, JAX

Chark emerged as a star last year for the Jaguars and was one of the top targets of Gardner Minshew. He is under contract for several more seasons and would be a nice pick up for the Jets. He has the potential to turn into a number one receiver with the right pieces around him and if they just continue to build properly he can thrive in New York. In 20 career games, Chark has accumulated 11 touchdowns on 113 receptions for 1,473 yards.

Julio Jones, WR, ATL

Julio Jones is one of the most prolific receivers that the NFL has seen ever. He is arguably the best receiver of the last five years and is under a large contract. If the Jets can pull off a trade for him that would immediately boost their receiving corps and through the draft, their receiving corps can advance to one of the best in the league. In his nine years in the league, Jones has played in 131 games catching 59 touchdowns on 828 receptions on a whopping 12,572 yards.

Kenny Golladay, WR, DET

The Jets were rumored to have interest in Golladay last off-season but nothing became of that. He is one of the most efficient catchers in the league and he’s on his way to becoming a top-flight receiver. He’s a quarterback’s best friend as he can be counted on in any situation which can be very helpful for whoever the Jets have a quarterback. Through 38 career games, the Northern Illinois product has 21 touchdowns on 183 receptions for 3,068 yards.

Overall the Jets really need to improve at receiver and these are just a few options. Expect them to improve with one of their many high round draft picks as well as some free agents.
