Seattle Mariners Select Emerson Hancock with 6th Pick in MLB Draft

The Seattle Mariners selected pitcher Emerson Hancock with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Jerry DiPoto instantly boosts his pitching prospects by adding the University of Georgia product to the fold.

Hancock gives the Mariners a lanky 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander with a high-90s fastball plus a slider, curve, and changeup in his mix of pitches. The Cairo, Ga., hurler finished his Bulldogs baseball career with a 3.49 ERA and 14-7 record across 29 starts in which he struck out 172 and walked 52 in 168 SEC innings.

Hancock is another collegiate starter in the 2020 draft that has a chance to advance quickly through the Mariners’ organization.

Hancock could provide the Mariners with a frontline starter candidate with his above-average fastball and great command of his four-pitch mix. Emerson developing alongside other Seattle young starting pitching prospects like Justin Dunn, Logan Gilbert, Justin Sheffield, and Isaiah Campbell gives Seattle fans something to get excited about with this pick.

Emerson turned 21 years old just two weeks ago and should be signed soon and given a chance to develop quickly with his new organization.
