Seahawks Re-Sign Josh Gordon

Seahawks Re-Sign Josh Gordon

While Antonio Brown and Jadeveon Clowney are still looking for new homes, Josh Gordon has re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

The troubled receiver spent the 2019 season with the New England Patriots for the first six games of the season where he caught 20 passes for 287 yards and a touchdown. Gordon wound up having an injury he thought wasn’t serious but the Patriots still placed him on injured reserve. With Gordon instead healthy, New England opted to release him as the relationship between him and Bill Belichick had seemingly soured. Gordon went on to sign with the Seahawks where he caught seven passes for 139 yards in five games. In December, the NFL suspended him indefinitely yet again for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug and substance abuse policies. That was Gordon’s fifth suspension in eight years.

Reinstatement Process

He was adamant that he was going to play during the 2020 season despite being suspended indefinitely. He has applied for reinstatement and on Thursday morning was re-signed by the Seahawks. While he has been re-signed by Seattle, he hasn’t officially been reinstated by the league, meaning he can’t play until he gets reinstated. Once reinstated, Gordon will receive just over $1 million from the Seahawks in hopes of making a title run.

With Gordon, Seattle is the deepest it has been at the receiver spot in some time. Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf proved to be one of the best duos in the league last year and David Moore was a solid third option. Seattle brought in Phillip Dorsett during free agency off of a five-touchdown year from New England and brought back Paul Richardson. The Gordon signing is a low-risk, high reward one for the Seahawks who are in win-now mode.
